Some of us actually do coach for a living. I'm not saying the poster has more knowledge, but his post was spot-on.

No need to get smart mouthed about it.

That's the sad thing about VN IMO. There is so much good stuff that could be explained and information passed out that our fan base could learn from on a free site - yet many would rather do SNL skits and act like they know what's going on.

JayVol - you and I are on the same page and I appreciate your comments and knowledge. Looking forward to more posts from you. I come on here looking for the nuggets because I truly love the Vols and want to better understand where they are heading.

Rumor has legs up here. CHH is apparently very well respected in the coaching community. It would suck for CHH to leave only for our run game to STILL suck next year cause its more the OC's scheme than the OL coaches ability.

Well said. Change for the sake of Change doesn't seem to work in College or on a National platform. :cray:

Back in college and more recently with one, I ran with some friends that played in the NFL. One was a starting OT for the Bills back in the 70s and early 80s. Also have a good friend that is a letterman Vol that was a college coach for years. He and I are in total agreement on this situation with the offense. Talk with some other Vol letterman frequently during the season.

Played college baseball myself, but never lost my love for football over baseball. Just could not get that illusive schollie at the d-1 level.

Similar story here but with football instead of baseball. I've been coaching for 19 1/2 years now. I used to talk with Noel Mazzone a lot when he was at Auburn as OC under Tubberville and OC at NC State under Amato where he coached Phillip Rivers. Don Dunn (former ETSU player and Auburn DL coach currently director of high school relations at TX Tech with Tubbs) is a friend of mine. Those guys that were at Auburn with Tubbs are some good folks.

EDIT: Except Gene Chizik. I thought he was an insufferable ass then. My opinion of him hasn't changed to date.

I agree. It's about scheme not necessarily coaching ability. The scheme doesn't seem to fit our style. CHH would probably do well in a spread offense. I know the man can coach, otherwise he wouldn't have had the jobs he has. Unfortunately, any critical comment is met with smart alec remarks from folks that wouldn't know the difference between a fold block, a G block, a cut block, or a reach block. They assume it's just another angry fan that has as much of a clue about the game as they do. Have a good one bro.

Thanks brother. Everything I say lately gets misconstrued into just being a ticked off fan. I know there's idiots out here, but get to know someone before assuming they are one of those guys.

I'm not sure how I feel about this but someone has changed Wikipedia.

"Prior to accepting the Offensive Line position at The Ohio State University , he coached the Chicago Bears O-Line and he was a college coach at University of Tennessee, East Stroudsburg University, University of Pennsylvania, University of Southern California, University of Toledo, University of Cincinnati, University of Missouri and University of Illinois."

If we can't vent truth without being called negative when we see the mistakes and holes in the program, then there's not much point in posting when some of them are on the thread. The attacks are so childish. You would think these "educated" posters would seek to understand first, before denigrating fellow Vol fan posters.

This CHH thing bothers me a lot. This is not his fault as we have discussed. The run game we ended up with was the result of plans made back before the first O/W game after CDD was hired. Had they picked the right scheme, then they could have checked him out for his ability to coach up the type players they wanted to recruit for that scheme. Then if he did not get the job done, it's time to move on. He just looks like the fans' scapegoat to me.

Blatant homerism is as damaging as outright hostility to a program. In order to improve at anything, one must be willing to look critically at all facets of an issue. I have learned more from my mistakes in life than my successes. That wouldn't be the case if I refused to recognize my faults/mistakes.

Smfh. I don't understand you guys sometimes. Meyer has the ability to go out and get any coach and he picks our own CHH and you still don't want to believe he may actually be a decent coach. If Peyton himself came to knoxville and kissed Harry right on the mouth would you look at him differently?

This. There's still many who act like Chavis can't coach either. I don't get it.I don't know if HH is the problem or not but I would rather give everyone one more year before deciding. If OSU is coming after the guy, he just may have a clue. Auburn lost their DC to UCF this week, that's a different story altogether.

I would like Mitch Browning to return as OL coach. He understands Chaney's system plus he can recruit.

Looks like they've changed it back:

Harry Hiestand - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Coaching career

He coached the Chicago Bears O-Line and he is a college coach at University of Tennessee, and previously coached at East Stroudsburg University, University of Pennsylvania, University of Southern California, University of Toledo, University of Cincinnati, University of Missouri and University of Illinois.

I don't understand why we are so worried about losing coaches on one of the worst Tennessee teams of all time. I say take them all.

from the current guys on the oline they dont want him gone. many of them Stone, Tiny, Big Zack, Dallas to name a few say he and bagget are or were the 2 best teachers on the staff. but take it for what its worth. i know many of you know it all and want to see him go.

Don't confuse this bunch with facts. They want our staff destroyed and our team to go back and start over so they can moan and groan some more, and spit out their garbage about how bad things are.
