Some people around the board have dared mention that ESPN/ABC/Disney popularity contest trophy they give out each year. Frankly, I hope we never get one, I still have a bad taste in my mouth from 97 and I personally don't want the damn thing in Knoxville. Give me the Maxwell award, O'Brian award, Outland Trophy, Bednarik, Thorpe, Lombardi, Remington, anything but that nonsense from New York. Some of you I'm sure are going to flame me for this point of view but it's my own, I'll take SEC and National Championship trophies over that garbage any day of the week.

I don't know what would be negative about a UT player winning the Heisman Trophy. If we have someone that wins the trophy, there's a pretty good likelihood that we are having a great season. It certainly would be great for recruiting. Maybe remove your biased opinion and think of all the positives it would bring to our football program.

After what our program has suffered since Fulmer, I will take all the awards and championships we can get.

While you're at it, don't forget that Johnny Majors was passed over for a player on a team with a LOSING record back in the day.

I am biased when it comes to Peyton Manning. But if you don't want Peyton Manning representing your award then I question the criteria.

I agree they can keep their award, I means nothing to me since 1997.

Our stupid hiesman runner ups count are simply another moral victory.

UT will be super kickass one day and it'll be super biased towards us as it should be. I know it. I'm just waiting

Most overrated award in all of sports, IMO. It's become a joke.

It really has. It is awarded to the most popular year in and year out. Sure, sometimes players are the most popular because they are the best but too many winners have been chosen over players better than them. The award has lost it's luster.

edit: When the Heisman selection is between Hurd and Dobss next season the award will gain all of it's prestige back and then some

I don't think it would be negative at all to have a Heisman in Knoxville, I'm just saying I consider the trophy to be a joke and in my opinion the Maxwell award is more representative of college football's most valuable player.

I could care less about it honestly. If we win one, great. If we don't, there is much greater hardware you can walk away with

Ain't watched that presentation since 1997 and probably never will again.

They can keep it. I'd rather see the team win the SEC and the NC

Heisman is a worthless piece of metal. Has been for years. Hope we never soil our trophy case with that crap.

Nobody cares about that popularity contest but the talking heads. It just gives them something to talk about. It is meaningless, it literally means NOTHING. There is no reason to even win it except maybe some extra Nike commercial income. I see no reason what so ever to even bother with it except the income for a commercial or two.
