I believe one person that might excel in our new defense this year is B. Brewer. He is a head hunting/ball hawking athlete. My question is, how exactly will they use him...Safety? LB?

I read a little about the 3-4 defense on another post...they talked about a position that is usually filled by a very versatile player that usually blitzed or covered the flats...who will be our versatile guy?

I've been hoping they move him to OLB for a while now. On one hand the DB commitments make it easier to move him, but I don't know if he is big enough to do it in the 3-4.

Just like with Hunter, I think we need to temper our expectations of Brewer a bit.. Coming back from ACL reconstruction isn't the easiest thing to do mentally, and I'm not sure he will be 100% in 2012. I hope so, but I'm going to be cautiously optimistic...

After winter workouts, Spring, & Summer ball (where I would expect nervousness)...I believe both will have confidence come fall. I expect big things from both players. I believe they will expect it from themselves.

He had a less than stellar season last season. With J. Jackson on the field, Brewer was free to roam the line of scrimmage and feel confident that J. Jackson had his back. Last season, without J. Jackson, his roaming slowed down alot....

he is not fast and was one of the problems in the secondary - if he doesnt pick it up he could get passed by the young guys - id like to see them try him as one of the LB's in a nickel package or when we are in a 4-3 on a passing down to get better coverage

Brewer was actually one of the fastest players on the team (40 time wise) if I'm not mistaken...but yeah he did have some trouble this year just like the rest of the secondary. Talent/speed wasn't his problem IMO

if you can get a link to the 40 times i would love to see it - i don't see any way he is one of the fastest - i have never been impressed with his speed/quickness

When has Brewer ever been good? All it takes is one or two good hits and people start acting like he's a beast. It's crazy how many "great players" we have and still went 5-7. So Brewer was average at best and by all accounts not even that last year then he tears his ACL but when he comes back he's going into beast mode and make "everyone pay"? OK

Much better against the run than the pass, but your assessment isn't entirely unfair.

I think we should find a way to make all of our players play in the minor leagues/D-league and then come play football for us. 24 year old sophomores are awesome.
