yeah they work well for single rooms and mini-splits have been around for quite a while. They may just be getting more press now for some reason

you'll have to get it sized properly and installed

Seems like if you had someone that knew what they were doing, it might be better than a standard setup, no??

depends on the application. I wouldn't want to install one in every room of the house but it would be great for an enclosed sunroom (just an example)

Maybe even putting one in the farthest room in the house from the unit you have, just so it helps keep everything even??

IMO it's going to take a big (expensive) unit to do that. Probably better to get recommendations on a whole house from someone that can actually measure and figure out your best route

One thing I've never understood about heating and cooling, is why there isn't more 2 unit installs. Sure, one unit can do the job, but it seems like you could save some money if you had two units that cooled and heated smaller portions faster.

Am I off base here??

run separate ductwork with 2 separate units? Can't imagine it would make sense from a cost perspective. Probably easier to just use separate zones if that's your objective

then again I never worked very much on the HVAC side just a little familiar with their products

Eric there great. Get you a heating and air guy in your area to give you an estimate. I know quite a few things about Heat and Air and general contracting. And yes if you could fork out the money geothermal is the way to go these days IMO.

We used them in Japan and, believe it or not, Afghanistan. Very efficient and quiet. If you use them for the whole house you will need multiple units, just like window units, but you could save $ long term with the efficiency.

This is kind of why they appeal to me. The ability to not heat or cool a room that's not in use, and then just be able to go turn it on, if necessary.

They heat and cool pretty fast, but like someone else said, the per unit cost may surprise you. Great for houses without ductwork.
