Heath Shuler for AD

first post in the thread, buddy. Didn't know I was part of the debate. But given your earlier post, I have no desire in having a debate with you. Go vols!

Actually I would prefer no politics here either, and would have happily stayed silent were it not for WV's BS.

Why is it, though, that you say you don't want to debate but you continue to throw all this condescending, degrading crap out there?

Personally I would welcome a reasonable, fact-oriented debate from someone of the other persuasion. It just doesn't ever happen - always degrades into trope regurgitation (rich people are evil, don't pay their fair share, Republican's want to starve children and throw old people out in the streets), positions based on emotion (I don't CARE if all our entitlement programs are unsustainable, it's only FAIR that I should be able to retire at 55 and live off everyone else for the last 30 years of my life), and unwillingness to consider an alternative view (e.g., "Given your earlier post, I have no desire in have a debate with you."). Country is on the brink - there really is a need for collective removal of heads from rear orifices.

I'll shut up if you will.

Why not? His prior jobs as bench sitting NFL player, real estate salesman and back bench sitting congressman make him perfectly qualified to be an AD. He's out of a job come Nov '12 anyway.

I'm not saying he should be the next AD. I just don't understand the trashing of Shuler. I remember Shuler always playing hard. Go back and look at the '92 Georgia game. He's a Vol and he deserves more respect. Go Vols!

Toby Keith is democrat. Conservative Democrat but democrat. It doesn't really matter who is a Democrat or Republican or whatever. Shular would love UT if he was the AD. Don't really know if he would be that good at it but he loves UT. Republican suck just as bad as Democrats. Period. Personally I would like to see GT's AD get it. Can't remember his name though.

Heath Shuler: from Congress back to Rocky Top… as Vols AD? | CollegeFootballTalk.

I don't know if this has already been posted but a friend of mine at church brought it to my attention and I had to look it up on the net to see if there was anything to it. It says in this article that Shuler had reached out to Fulmer and Major for support in pursing the job. The it goes on to say he was still focused on congress. So what do you guys think would he make a good A.D.

I'm sorry, but anyone who thinks that Shuler is qualified for the job needs to have his or her head examined.

Shuler would do just fine. Where Hamilton failed as far as football goes is the fact he didn't have a clue about it and missed obvious signs that it was in decline. Heath wouldn't have missed those things. Makes me laugh when people talk about how bad Dickey was. I don't remember the football program sucking under Dickey.

bring in anybody that cares more about winning than fund raising

Without money you don't have much of a team. But I get where you're coming from. You hire to give your program the best winning chance. But you got to pay winning coaches money or you don't get them not to mention keep them. So an AD who has an "ideal" balance capacity for winning and fund raising is your best bet.

I never thought I would see the day that I would have thought that UT has more in-breeding than Alabama but it must be getting close.

I thought we were going to have a national search for a professional AD.

This is about the 100th time he's been suggested for the position. The biggest negative is that he's a politician. That makes him corruptible by default.

I guess the same could be said for Lang Wiseman then? lol

On a serious note, I do want someone with AD experience.

winning would certainly help fund raising

Saw it. What VM14 said. Not really news.

Personally, I don't want a "sentimental favorite". I want a guy, or lady, who understands what UT Athletics is all about; what it means to be a Vol...and a VFL; how to recruit, hire, and then motivate winning coaches; how to get the fans, alumni, and boosters behind the athletic programs; how to raise money, and fund improvements to facilities; and how to represent UT Athletics with pride, honor, and integrity.

Most importantly, how to restore the pride in UT football, mens basketball, and baseball.

Tough job. Although I would prefer someone with a UT background, I'll take a BYU grad who can do it over a UT grad that looks good on paper.

We need to get this one right.

If it's Heath, then go get him. If not, then get the right one. And don't overlook the possibility that we might already have the right one on campus.

Go Vols.
