Hearing the song "Rocky Top" makes me ________

Haha....I would say it would, coming from a KY fan.

Just an observation - I have no idea what KY"s fight song is?? Does anyone (NON-UK FANS!) know it?
I can't even think of how it goes.....

Is it
"What's up Pussey Cat? - Whoa-oh-whoa-whooooaaa!"

It's On, On U of K, and if you'd ever been to any UK/UT games, you might know that, although the UT band plays it way, way too slow.

By the way, do YOU know what UT's fight song is?

It's not necessarily a misunderstanding of tempo when the Pride plays it; the pre-game field show is one tempo from start finish and due to the personnel facings it would be too difficult to stop, re-start in the new tempo, then stop and re-start back in the old tempo. It's part of the difficulties that rise from having one of the last traditional style, precision marching field shows.

As for UT's fight song... Once upon a time it was "Spirit of the Hill", then "March On, Mighty Vols"; "Fight Vols Fight" fit in there somewhere before "Down the Field" was officially copied from Yale and codified as the official university fight song.

Google is mighty, isn't it? I was asking the other guy, anyway, hoping he'd go, "Duhhhh! Rocky Top!" But you spoiled my fun. :)

Didn't use google... Just stuff I learned in band camp ;)

And yeah, I agree. You'd figure that a real fan would immerse themselves in the University's history beyond just the win/loss record and the names of some big name players and scandals.

So he "borrowed" the phrase from John right? I'm talking about broadcast guys. A little story about the "phrase". In the early nineties I was out in my front yard when my new neighbor across the street came out into his yard. I decided to go over and introduce myself and we started talking. Found out he was from Buffalo, New York and played on a Division 2 football team. It was mid summer and I started telling him about my Vols. I told him we should watch some football together and how I usually turned the tv sound down when Tennessee was on and listened to the radio broadcast by John Ward. I was explaining about the opening of the T and when John said "it's football time in Tennessee" I would get goose bumps. He said man you've got goose bumps right now. I looked down at my arms and sure enough I had goose bumps just thinking about it.

Hahaha I get goosebumps thinkin' about that moment too. And, yes, Denton got it from John Ward, but its just as exciting to hear it over the PA at the game as it was to hear Ward say it over the radio. It was sad to see John go, but it will be sad to see Bobby go too. He's getting old and will probably retire sometime in the near future.

gotta keep the "woo" ....wouldn't be the same without it. :p....and besides, some people only "woo!" and don't sing the rest of the song. :)

Its one tradition I could live without. I need to smack the two idiots that started it next time I see them.

It reminds me of my late Grandmother who lived in Monterey. She would fix a lunch for us to eat as we drove down I-40 to Neyland. It reminds me of my Aunt who worked in the "round" bank, also in Monterey. She listened on the radio as she could not attend the games. It reminds me how great it is to be a fan of the Vols. And finally; it reminds me of all of you in the VN family.

Have you paid attention to the lyrics? Exactly where does the song mention football? It's about a bunch of drunk, apparently sex crazed, hillbillies killing ATF agents and failing to cut it in the big city.

I'm far from a hillbilly, but the fact that the song is about killing federal agents is in the plus category for me.

i'm partial to the original version. I wonder how the Osbourne Bro's would view how their song is used today...probably be proud...and a little freaked out.

I'm pretty sure if they knew that the girls were going to add that "WOOO!!" to the chorus, they would have never recorded it.

I need names. See, I have this crusade going on. I do not know a lot about football. But, I do have a dream.

NO MORE WOOO!!!

When I hear the dawgs song "I've been working on the railroard all the live long day", it reminds me of my kindergarten days.

I've been to my share of Ga games and watched more, and I've never heard their band play anything resembling that.

When I hear Rocky Top I want to:

...break stuff

...party...hard

...rock out with my rooster out
