Hearing Rumors Debord Is Gone After This Season

Dobbs' development (or lack thereof) shows the importance of a QB coach. If Debord stays, then someone on the offensive staff needs to go to make room for a full time QB coach. Could make sense to ditch Mahoney and have Debord take over OL freeing up a position coach.

Debord really infuriates me with his runs on 1st down and 2 yard passes on 3rd and long. Then I realize, wait that's butch's chart.

We better hope he is here next year. Butch brought in someone he can trust to run his offense. It's HIS scheme. Can anyone even tell me what Debords preferred scheme is? He has coached in almost every offense created.

The guy has valuable experience, NFL connections, and knows how to train top teir athletes. You just can't be employed at this level or higher without knowing how to train players. Not for long at least, and Debord has been around high level teams for decades.

Who else are you going to bring in? Who is going to gamble on a team that may change head coaches soon because of the expectations of fans and admins? What top level OC wants Butch handing them a chart and saying "THIS!"

We will have a new qb next year making change an even worse prospect. Debord is fine for now, and the playbook will open earlier when Jones feels confident in his QB making simple reads. Face it, Normandy and Gauntanamo have bigger arms with better accuracy. That will open our offense and make 1st down risks more plausible.

I remember Cincy coming out swinging when he was there with a trusted qb. I seriously don't think this offense is designed to be so boring. It's our personnel limits that force play calling.

If he gets the opportunity to stick around another year, I'd love to see what he could do with another QB. I love Dobbs as our QB, but it'd be interesting to see what this offense could do with a QB with long ball accuracy.

Where is that QB on our roster?

We can assume all we want, but there isn't anything solidified with four games left. It seems like the right thing to do since our offense hasn't been very good all year, but we can't make that assumption. If we lose another game, 2-3 should be replaced. This isn't a place where coaches would turn down the opportunity anymore. They see and know what's here.

I think he's unfortunately going to have to either fire Debord or a slew of offensive coaches to go into next year without a scorching hot seat.

I'd love to hear what LWSVOL has to say about this, but I still don't think we've seen Butch's offense come close to it's true potential. I don't necessarily think it's Debord or Butch's fault, I just think we lack the personnel to really execute it at an SEC/Championship level.

Year 4 and it's not the Coach's fault the O sucks? Year 4 and we don't have the personnel? Wut???!!

He is going to quit but remain in the booth for the rest of the season. Then, he is going to explore becoming a defensive coordinator

His play calling has made him the best defensive coordinator in the country for the opposition. He has repeatedly stopped the Vols offense all year long!

When Fulmer was forced into replacing his OC, Cut was waiting in the wings. I don't know who Butch can call on especially with 2017 possibly being a make or break season for his tenure at UTK. I think we may be stuck.

Not trying to defend anybody, but isn't it ironic that we put up some many yards/points against Florida, Georgia, A&M. Honestly I think but it one playing ultra conservative ball.

Not sure about that one. I don't what Butch's expectations for the strength coach were. I know he and Lawson had differences in the approach is why Lawson no longer here.

I've heard some rumbles about making the players smaller and faster / quicker. When you do that, it is also too easy to make them weaker. For whatever reason, we have appeared weaker or softer this year, especially in the lines.

Now was that because of the new guys training techniques or was it Butch requiring smaller and quicker? I don't know.

If the guy did what Butch wanted seems he has a hard time replacing him

If this is the case then this is the biggest problem in the program. Our players should not be as small as they are. This isn't the Big 12. The weight loss on K-Mac is just bizarre. Why would you want him that small when he's going to be rotated in and out? Does Butch not look at the size of Alabama's players?

LWS does Butch see that some of HIS decisions has proved disastrous this season?! I have said from the beginning we looked weaker and the injuries have just been unheard of. I have to believe there is a correlation between these S&C changes and the injuries. Butch is just out of his league in this conference and the writing is on the wall in my opinion. What are your thoughts on all of this?
