I don't mind "paying him what he is worth" and surely don't begrudge his feeling he was worth more. What I dislike is the way he/or his agent handled the situation. Now, if he asked Phil for more money and was turned down then it was very likely the only way to get a raise. If this was the case, then more power to him. But had it been me, I guess I would have adopted the position that "if is was not worth it when I asked for a raise, why am I worth it now? see you later)

Yeah. Fulmer was ready to move on. He has the mindset that UT is the best place in the country, and didn’t take it too well when he found out one of his head coaches was about to leave for another university.

All this is history.....it's time to move on and let the drama go of the past....who really cares and if you do "Really or Reality" makes no difference it is past and it is history.....

Barnes has built a roster full of players with this high level BB IQs and talent, that are extremely well disciplined and hard working, and have such great character. I've never seen any UT coach check so many boxes except for Pat. Even if the elusive Final Four doesn't arrive on his watch I'm not going to ever regret his tenure as the UTHC. He's built something special. All we need now is some good luck for a change in the post season. Getting bounced on a phantom foul versus Purdue last year isn't something that a coach can fix. But maybe the Reverend can competently counter an old nun's prayer for a lucky bounce on a buzzer beater.
Can’t find your other post, but yes phat. A PHAT offer... Pretty hot and tempting 😂

It seems like it's been deleted and I have no idea why. It was simply 2 questions. The first was about the adjective chosen to describe the contract and the second was an inquiry about the meeting venue. Maybe somebody quoted me and was mean to Phil.

Was totally blind sided by Barnes with the whole UCLA debacle. Fulmer learned about it through the papers. Barnes was gone. Fulmer was ready to move on and start the search, but a few big boosters went to him and told him whatever it takes, keep him here. Then phil got Barnes the phat contract with the big money. - Story From a personal friend of Phil so May have been a little biased but hey, info is info.

Me personally, I still look at Barnes a little differently now than I did previously. Have no doubt he is a good coach and we are lucky to have him, but still feel a little blind sided myself.

Regardless, I’m still excited about the season. But if we struggle this year and miss the bubble, there is gonna be a lot of barking and bitterness bc of the aforementioned items even more so and questions about the contract. Either way, we are in for an exciting season. GBO 🍊
I like Barnes a lot. I do think however that he may have damaged some of his good will with the fans. He did win 31 games last year but had no Banner or Championship to show for it. That's nearly impossible to do but we managed. As a result some fans were already a little upset because of Barnes reputations in tournaments. I agreed he deserved a raise. I'm not sure he should be a top 5 paid coach and make more than some coaches that have won multiple championships. That saying I am glad he's here and am hoping for a great season.

Having a poor football product has a little to do with that too LOL fans are starving for anything.

I think that the deadline for season ticket purchases was 7/31. That doesn't include the VolPass with the leftovers however. I'd guess the UTAD includes the VP in the season ticket sales totals they report.

Here's the thing though. It became an issue of do you want to keep him or not. Another school is offering to make him a top-5 paid coach. You have a decision to make. With the shape of nearly every other program in our AD, I can understand our decision to keep the one good thing we had going. Fulmer's pride with regard to that, if true, seems foolish and naive.

Randy Boyd also deserves credit for keeping CRB at UT as the AD of any school has to inform the president about any negotiations in that department.

Why do we have to continue to bring this up. There are about twenty different versions floating around about how this went down. I believe most of our is malarkey. Barnes seemed legitimately that it was taken by some that he was playing the raise game and that the situation had been taken out of context by a reporter that did not check their facts. Regardless, what does it matter?

When he actually wins a game in the NCAA tournament he wasn’t suppose to, I will then start to care. Until then he is a great regular season coach and a mediocre post season coach.

If you start to feel down at any point this season just take a look at our 2020 b-ball recruiting class and breathe a sigh of relief.
