Last weekend I played in golf tournament in NC and met some guys from Georgia. We got to discussing college football. I ask them what they think about Richt. They like him , but made it clear that they would much rather have Dooley. I ask if it was just because of who his father is, and they said no. They think he will be very successful because of his knowledge, demeanor, and his eye for talent. They told me that alot of people they talk to think TN will be back on top of their game very soon! I ask if they thought Dooley would ever leave for GA and they said no. He doesnt wanna try to fill his father's shoes.... he wants to make his own way and TN gave him the perfect opportunity! All this may not mean much coming from a 19th hole group of hackers smoking cigars and enjoying beverages, but it made me smile.:)

If UGA moves richt out in a couple of years and dooley does well, they will be targeting him for their coaching job.

Good post man. I think it's always good to hear from an outside perspective. I agree with what theyre saying and like how dooley said he doesn't get caught up in the "Star game". He said that every commit has been closely evaluated and I think with our coaching staffs track record that's always a good thing. Who knows maybe we've gotten a lot of steals so far. I'm anxious to see what happens to our recruits star ratings after this season.

This is one area where I feel much more comfortable with Dooley than I ever did with Kiffin. Most the rational fans (including many that tried to give Kiffin the benefit of the doubt) understood that Kiffin was a mercenary. When Carroll left USC, I told several friends that I didn't expect USC to come after Kiffin (I thought they would get someone higher on their list), but I figured he would leave in a heartbeat if they did. I don't feel the same about Dooley. For better or worse, I think he'll stick with UT as long as UT wants him here. Now, I don't think that he'll stay if he gets an offer that raises his salary by a million a year (unless UT matches), but I think he'll always give us a fair chance to keep him if others come calling.

I've been fooled before, but I think UGA would have a very difficult time getting Dooley away from UT. I think this is especially true if Dooley is here for 3+ years and actually builds it back into a winning program.

I thought Kiffin would stick for 3 years then go back to the NFL. Dooley seems like a guy that will stay for at least the duration of his contract.

There's a lot to be said for that. Dale Earnhardt Jr is a prime example. Good or Bad, Derek Dooley will never be Vince.

Move on troll. There's a big difference between the Earnhardts, a father who barely had anything to do with his son and a son trying to make a name off his father's death, and the Dooleys, a very healthy family with plenty of support and love to share.

Just look at and listen to the Matriarchs of each family, one's a money grubbing, blood sucking rinch and the other is a very entertaining, funny, loving mother.

Try not to compare the Dooley's with the Earnhardt's, it's not even a competition.

Yea, both fathers were successful, but that's where the similarities end.

And sorry if I offended any of you Dale fans out there, I was always a big fan of #3 as well, don't like his son much though.

Dooley said already that he didnt want to coach at UGA, simply because he didnt want to live in his father's shadow. He wants to make a name for himself on his own terms. I can respect that.

Dooley is 100% class... He is fulmer with a mean side!

We will be on top- expect 3rd consecutive top 15 class in recruiting this year!

I didn't understand this? I hope Dooley stays, but money changes everything. I feel confident with the coaching staff Dooley has now, but how will he deal with turnover if say Wilcox or lance jumps ship. There are a lot of unknowns to really know anything.

If it's even contractually possible for Dooly to leave us for Georgia or Virginia, Hamilton should be fired right now.

I was saying, just look at the mothers of each family. Dale Jr's Mom is a money grubbing, blood sucking rinch, and Mrs. Dooley is a very entertaining, loving mother.

I would think that Georgia might be the one school to lure Wil Muschamp (he did play football at Georgia) away from Texas. I would think they would target him before Dooley.

Junior is HORRIBLE. He has always had great equipment, but had terrible results. He couldn't even win at Nashville speedway in the LMSC division.

Except Dale Jr's problem isn't talent. He was winning races in the 8 car when it wasn't top tier equipment. I think it's his focus and dedication. Guy clearly has other things he wants to do. Racing is just a hobby for that guy now.

I'm not a Jr fan. Like I just said...look at when when he was winning multiple races in a season. He won 6 races in 2004, but it was still a Roush/Hendrick world

He won 2 races in 2003 and finished third in the points. To what two teams? Roush/Hendrick.

Wins 2 races in 2002...doesn't even crack the top 10.

Talent clearly isn't the issue. I don't think it ever was. He dominated the busch series for two years. better equipment there than in cup.

Now he's got the equipment, and can't win. I just don't think he cares like he used too.

This has already been discussed. Dooley feels no affinity for UGA so it's a moot point. Dooley Sr. was an Auburn guy anywho and made his way at UGA. Dooley Jr. wants to write his own book and is happy to be at an even richer SEC power.

I don't see Dooley leaving UT for UGA if the opportunity ever arises
