Head ref embracing Alabama qb prior to game with Vols!

This is going to be a bad opinion in this room, but I honestly felt last Saturday was probably the most fair TSIO game I've seen called in the last twenty years.
Vols had 10 penalties called for 66yds
Gumps had 7 called for 59yds

7 yards was not the difference in this game.

I get that point of view.

I do however agree that it tends to be a trend where Bama penalties are called when the game is either already decided or the penalty is at a non critical point. Thus the optics look as though it was unbiased and fair.

Oh, you think a kid who grew up around football and might have a personal relationship with others involved in football, was the reason we lost Saturday?
It wasn't the poor tackling, dropped balls, or interceptions?
It’s not why we lost but it shouldn’t happen. Referees with relationships to the teams involved shouldn’t be allowed to officiate the given game.

I agree but… that ref has to be a little smarter than that. I’m sure it was sincere, but what a comically bad look.

Maybe bad optics but means nothing. People have relationships, football at this level is a small world. I give the benefit of the doubt that most professionals seek to perform at a high level and try not to let relationships alter that and in fact the opposite could even be true. I could see a professional ref feel he needs to prove no bias and possible subconsciously be more inclined to make tighter calls to prove his non-bias. I would have more problem if they acted like they did not know each other and later it was revealed they were close. Now you tell me a head ref works for a car dealership owned by a big donor then I will have an issue.

The only thing I'll say about officiating is that I find it suspicious that Alabama only seems to start being nailed by penalties when they have a game in hand.Seems to happen often for them, especially when they play the Vols.
Confirmation bias- look it up. A judgement call DPI completely changed the game 3 yrs ago to stop the streak. Some of you guys are just absurd.

Oh we did plenty to lose that game. The point is Bama didn’t need any help from the refs. And this clown shoe takes his hat off and hugs the kid. Which told me right ther it’s going to be a long night.

It was very unprofessional, it could've been done afterwards out of public eye; BUT it had nothing to do with us losing. We cost ourselves the opportunity to with that game with poor tackling and bad offense.

Two things can be true: it _was_ unprofessional as hell, and it _didn't_ seem to have any impact on the game calling.

An old Army colonel once told me, "You gotta pass the Washington Post test -- would you be okay if whatever you just did ended up on the front page? It's not enough to do the right thing; you have to be SEEN to do the right thing."

That ref, in that instant, failed the Washington Post test.

Can you point out any missed calls before that? it was a home game they are gonna get an advantage in calls just like we will when we are home team. I watched the game.. the refs had nothing to do with the outcome. Unless Staley is a secret ref.

They ought to do a better job of making sure there is not a hint of impropriety of any ref. Bama resident being head ref of a Bama game? Bama grad a ref of their game. Etc.
There is impropriety going on. Rampant impropriety. In a major way. They don't have to hide it when you can't do **** about it.

JA got roughed in the endzone on the safety. William Wright got grabbed by both of his shoulder pads and pulled into the receiver, earning himself a pass interference call. A critical one at that. At least 4 non-holding calls, a major reason we had no sacks.

We got totally bullsharted as per usual. Our guys have to rise above the ******** and still dominate. We did not. So we lost. Again.
