Got news for you. Because of Trump pulling out of the deal with Iran they were spinning up. Literally.
Even you can’t be this stupid. You know damn well Iran was still working to build a active nuke program. When they make these deals they stop the saber rattling that’s all. The one universal truth is the US won’t overthrow you if you have nukes. It’s why they want one. Same with NK. Don’t be stupid.

Mossad is badass. Remote control machine guns? Yeeesh.

Dude had a 3 car escort, bulletproof car, plus a bodyguard, and still got whacked.

Presume NSA and/or CIA assisted with all the non Hum Int.

I'm not an advocate of this kind of thing, but yeah, Iran pretty much sealed the deal when they avowed to "wipe Israel off the face of the Earth" awhile back. Bush Doctrine on steroids in Israel.

Agreed and the unfortunate reality is leaders like those in Iran respect this type of thing more than groveling diplomacy. Team Biden could leverage this is they so chose but it appears they'll condemn Israel and suck up to Iran resulting in more power for Iran.

A key to negotiation is understanding the motivations/fears of the other side; Obama and now Biden appear to believe that Iran shares the same values as the US. It's been demonstrated over and over that they do not.

The alignment of the ME against Iran and linking of Israel to the Arab nations was the best remedy to the Iran problem. All that is about to be squandered

Yeah I really like some of trump’s foreign policy.....I feel like the US has been like the FBI in the movie Die Hard....... using the same playbook over and over...... our enemies know every single step we are going to make.

Seems there may be a pallet of cash heading to this guys family soon

Well it was their money eh.

In my world, if someone gives me money to buy something and I just pocket the money, I'm a thief.

You can spin it all you want, but George HW Bush also gave Iran $200M for the same reason/case.

We didn't have to pay interest on the money but I'm pretty sure we did.

They are bad ass. A friend of mine was a marine and worked some security detail as a contractor and had the pleasure of working with and around some on official visits. He always told me they and the Russians were the only two he had a really healthy respect for, said they were pretty scary dudes.

WHY WAS INTEREST PAID?
The 1979 MoU stipulated that the unexpended funds would be placed in an interest-bearing account. As it turns out, these funds were not based in such an account—no U.S. administration implemented that requirement. The reasons for this are not clear. Former Undersecretary of Defense for Policy Eric Edelman, who testified on this issue before the Senate, noted that the United States “does not let [FMS accounts] accrue interest.”

Still, most if not all other claims before the Iran-U.S. Claims Tribunal have incorporated compensation for accrued interest. This is consistent with the position adopted by the Treasury Department at the outset of the 1979 assets freeze, although in nearly every case the amount of the interest to be paid has been subject to some haggling between Washington and Tehran.

Obama administration officials maintain that a Tribunal decision may have resulted in a much larger judgment on the issue of accrued interest.

The Deal

Russians are just tough people. Wouldn't want my life to depend on a bar fight with any of them.

I wonder what kind of rate they got? I think my checking account is .001% and my savings account is .01%. If it was based on the early 80's rate I'm gonna be pissed.

Good riddance.

It was us or Israel.

H’mmmm. Biden announced he was going to re-instate the Agreement Trump withdrew from. Therefore it likely was Israel. Trump might have thought about it to screw Biden but adults in the room would have made sure it didn’t happen.

Why do you consider that deal a good thing?
