Head coaches and their qbs

That particular year I was referring to was hs. When I started losing games I consulted with coaches from higher levels to run the idea by them of a second string D on our own side of the 50 and switching to 1s on the opposing side. It didn’t always work but it helped.
Did they sell that “forcing turnovers is bad” philosophy or vice versa?

Well of course. You never WANT turn overs but you understand they are a part of the game and especially within that style of offense. But the math tells you that they are not as harmful to a spread as they are to a conservative approach.

It's well known that he gets pass happy at times and will abandon the run. It's been the knock on him going back to his days at Purdue. Look at the SC game - 10 rushing attempts in the 1st half for 12 yards; then 60 yards rushing on the opening drive off the 2nd half. He's like an Air Raid guy, but with a conscience lol.
That may be, but the facts show that he is not doing that this year. Your evidence points to the fact that he will adjust to very good effect. If passing every play is warranted, he will be pass happy. If running it down their throat is warranted, it will be four yards and a cloud of dust all game.

So, a pedestrian quarterback is on the field, because the defensive coordinator turned head coach, fears an interception more than he fears fumbles, sacks, or 3 and outs.
This leaves 3 possible “gunslingers” sitting on the bench, wasting their time and talent.
This decision by the hc cannot be good for their self confidence.

Tennessee will not beat the best teams playing a mediocre qb. We may beat mediocre teams. This will continue because the best future quarterbacks will choose to play for Coaches who enjoy the Offensive part of football. If you were the best quarterback choosing a Coach to play for, would you rather play for Mullen, Leach, Kiffin, etc.? When that happens, Tennessee will never be elite again.
