Taking a look at Dooley and Butch, both were disfunctional, in different areas. Dooley couldn't recruit and Butch could recruit, but couldn't run a program. Both UT stint/exits were fast forwarded by bad coordinator hires. Dooley w/ Sunseri. Butch, w/ Scott, but almost anyone would fail, having to run Butch system, w/o someone like Dobbs making up for coaching malpractice.

For reasons above, I think we'll go in direction of someone w/ high level P5 experience. Look at Frost, and he's the shiny new toy, but there's a difference from building in lesser conference, and the enormity of a job like UT, going against the best in the business. Need someone who walks in Day 1 knowing how to deal with the press, fans, recruiting, and more than anything, how to fill out a staff and actually coach. Too big of a job for an up and comer who hasn't experienced what it takes to win big time football.

Not hating the Leach talk...think he brings resume and arrogance needed, though there are others.

Another non related question...does Gullickson stay because he is a UTAD employee?

With all the money available now, its hard to poach a winner from a P5 school.

Last year, LSU (currently a much better job than ours) ended up with Ed Orgeron.....

I would always worry about Frost going to Nebraska as his dream job. I am at a complete loss of who Currie has in mind now. I thought we would end up with Cut after missing out on Gruden and whoever else. I just have no idea now, but he certainly can't trot out Schiano or a coach with a losing record....although 5 years ago I was emphatic to say there is no way we would hire Butch Jones....so I am not even going to guess anymore.

What Frost has done at UCF is beyond phenomenal, and people forget that Frost was also an extremely successful OC at Oregon, where he won PAC 12 championships. He also won championships as a player at Nebraska on some the best teams ever fielded in the history of college football, so the claim that he doesn't know what it takes to win at the highest level is kind of ridiculous. Neither Butch nor Dooley had anything close to the resume Frost had at the time of their respective firings. Frost would be behind only Gruden and Petersen in my view. He kind of reminds me of a younger Chris Petersen. Unfortunately, he will probably end up at Florida or Nebraska. If we don't get him, I hope he ends up at Nebraska because he'll be kicking our @$$ year end and year out if he goes to Florida. Wherever he goes, he's going to be very successful. With regard to Leach, he hasn't won any type of championship in his 15 years of coaching. At best, we would be what Kentcky was with Hal Mumme at the helm.

I think Leach would do a good job. I'm still a Dana Holgerson fan. DH does a bang up job in the worst cesspool of a state in the U.S..yet his name is never mentioned.....

I agree, and am kinda all over the board on this. Leach wasn't even consideration until started hearing him recently. Frost and a few others I think are certainly top shelf...I just hope our Currie and UTAD are competent enough to recognize and get one of top 2-3 candidates. We should be able to manage this w/ everything we have to sell...is all I'm saying.

I believe UT is finally doing the right thing which is putting their head down blocking out the noise and making the best decision for UT. Sadly there are no guarantees in this coaching cycle. Everyone who's recommended has a flaw. I just dont want to hit my wagon to Frost. He will still have a lot of on the Job learning to do when he arrives and he would need to put together a new staff which could be a chemistry breaker.

Bring Cutcliffe home , get several ex Vols ( Tee Martin, Dale Jones) for a few years to get our program back and then turn it over to one of the assistants ( Tee Martin ?). Would be better than a lot of the options we are hearing.

Jimbo was always LSU's #1 choice, after the $100m+ figure was spoken about.... LSU did enquire as to Herman but once their side started leaking to the media, LSU was out because it was not going to get into a bidding war as his destination was more likely Texas anyway. LSU did internally speak about Fedora, but I don't have any information they ever officially inquiried to him. I believe they thought Orgeron + Aranda was a much better deal than what was available at the correct price points.

I would generally (although maybe still too early to tell), LSU has done fairly well - Orgeron's record is better than all three of those guys and they didn't take over for a fired coach and they are in much weaker conferences.

As much talk as there is about Les, LSU just won more SEC games since 2012.

As I mentioned about a moon or so ago - if I were Tennessee I would have at least inquired about Pelini as at least a defensive coordinator.
