HBO's "Game of Thrones"

I'm not sure there's ever been a more unifying moment in terms of TV viewers rooting for the same thing as his death.

I told my wife last night that I have not enjoyed witnessing the death of a villain in a movie/TV show like that since Russell Crow (Maximus) killed Joaquin Phoenix (Commodus) in Gladiator.

Now on to who dunnit and how (cake? wine? other?)

I say Cersei.

NO SPOLIERS PLEASE!!!! THIS IS ONLY A THEORY, I HAVE NOT READ THE BOOKS!!

-She sent the Maester away

-Geoffrey's death keeps her as Queen Regent

-She already tried to poison one of her kids

-She ordered that all the food be given to the dogs instead of the people of King's Landing. If the people of King's Landing were poisoned by food from the capital they would revolt thinking it was intentional.

Geoffrey wasn't the only one eating the food. He did appear to be the only one who ate the cake.

Well, earlier in one of the previous seasons they say poison is either a eunuch or a woman's weapon. I don't think Varys did it, he doesnt seem like a killer other than taking revenge on the guy who cut him. Sansa could have, but I don't think she did it either. Especially since she could have killed him already when he was standing next to the ledge forcing her to look at her fathers head. I'm definitely certain Tyrion didn't do it. His look of confusion when picking up the goblet the wine was in makes me pretty certain. So that leaves the Tyrell's. They knew that Joffrey was a terrible person, and it seems Margery just wants to be queen. I think they had this planned the whole time. Also, the goblet was sitting in front of Margery's grandmother right before Joffrey got it and choked up. Margery was the last person to touch it before him. Plus the camera kept panning to Margery's grandmother.

I think it was Geoffrey's grandfather, Tywin Lannister. I think nothing in the world is more important to him than the reign of the Lannister family and I think he knew that having Joffrey on the throne was poison (no pun intended) for the future of the Lannister reign.

Where is he? Not even at the wedding?

He left to go to the Vale in episode 10 of season 3 to woo Lysa Tully-Arryn. Margaery Tyrell was the last person seen to touch the cup before Joffrey started choking. That was pretty obvious. Poison was called a woman's weapon by Ned Stark in Season 1. So my money is on a woman. Cersei could have done it to recoup her power. Tommen, the guy sitting between Cersei and Tyrion, is the heir. I imagine he is more pliable than Joffrey. Cersei had become more and more agitated at losing Joff to the wicked little b*tch from Highgarden. I can see her getting rid of the first son and empowering the one who she will control a little while longer.

Great thing is it could be anyone. The kings jester knew what was up. Tyrell ladies are smart though and I wouldn't think either woman would want the queen to spend one night with him after learning of his actions.
Caught me offguard though.

Interesting. I hadn't considered that. It's probably worth noting that Tommen was replaced this season with a different, older actor.

if I could watch a show like True Detective or GOT each week for 2 hrs total, it's all the tv outside of some football and basketball that I would watch.

No one has mentioned Oberyn Martell who explicitly came to seek revenge against the Lannisters for having his sister? and her kids killed.

Stannis and his crazy bisch have taken out one "king" already. She presumably still has "blood of the king" to work with between Stannis and King Roberts bastard. She could birth up another killer

Basically, there is no shortage of people that would have wanted a shot.

Oberyn doesn't seem like the poison type. Seems like he would be the type to run a sword through Joffrey's back and give him a slow death.

Some interesting theories here...As I know who killed Joffrey, I was interested to see how it'd come off on screen. It's very subtle....
