A buddy of mine who read the books said that when Catelyn Stark heard the song the guys starting playing she knew it was something bad, hence her strange reaction....
It was the Rains of Castamere which is a song that honors the Lannisters.
Lyrics:
And who are you, the proud lord said,
that I must bow so low?
Only a cat of a different coat,
that's all the truth I know.
In a coat of gold or a coat of red,
a lion still has claws,
And mine are long and sharp, my lord,
as long and sharp as yours.
And so he spoke, and so he spoke,
that Lord of Castamere,
But now the rains weep o'er his hall,
with no one there to hear.
Yes now the rains weep o'er his hall,
and not a soul to hear.
The National have a pretty great version of it.
Also I am jealous you didn't know it was going to happen. You should go back and re-watch this season for clues to Bolton's betrayal of the Starks.
I am unsure if I prefer the book or the show's version of the Red Wedding. It has been 7 years since I read it, but I think the changes they made to it for show made it a little more dramatic.
Still sucks they are waiting until next season to do the rest of book 3.
