Kiffin left at the worst possible time. Dooley has 2 weeks to complete a recurting class he didnt know anything about 2 and a half weeks ago. Urban or Nick couldnt do much more. Give him a chance.

I think we have no choice but to give him a chance. I agree with the OP. He was hired on the 15th and from that point has/had 19 days till NSD.

He has, since his arrival, secured 1 commit and brought several coaches from his own staff. He has made a hire of a coach from Memphis who no one in North America has heard of. He has an open checkbook for top notch coaches and I don't buy the time of year thing for assistants.

Now, I am all VOL and am trying to support him fully.. But he needs to be showing just a few solid results by now IMO. Do u not afree???

GBO?..............

Dooley has had the job seven days.

He said in his presser that he wasn't gonna get an all-star staff.

He kept Chaney and (seemingly) last year's offense in place.

He is quoted as saying he wants a DC who will continue what Monte did last season with the defense. Say what you will about Monte, the defense is the main reason we were competitive all last year, and the only reason we won any of our first 6 games, before the Crompton miracle.

The DC is hired for (hopefully) a long time, much longer than the difference in classes if we finish with or without one in place by signing day.

I would rather have a DC in place by early next week so we can get him in front of some of the players in time to get them to visit next weekend, but I'd rather have the right guy for the long haul vs. settling just to have this happen.

He hasn't even coached a practice.

Be critical after he does something worthy of being critical about. He has made two unpopular hires. These guys also haven't had the chance to coach one practice yet, either.

I have been trying to digest what just happen to UT Footaball and not come on here with snap judgements or reactions....... So here are a few things I have arrived at.

Wish I had been in knoxville when Kiffy left. I would have liked one good shot at breaking his jaw, so it would be wired shut for the next 6 months......and that's all I have to say about that.:bash:

Dooley may be a good hire and may not. I am willing to give him some time, but so far I am not impressed. The coaching staff needs to be completed now. This years recruiting depends on the guys we bring in as coaches and as you all know this is the class that will determine if we get back on top sometime soon. I know that tradition brings in some recruits, but kids we need, go to schools that offer them there best chance of going Pro and coaching has an impact on it.

We needed to have a well know and respected coach for OL and DC by now. This would improve our chances at some of those kids we really need and provide the needed stability to the program. Dooley isn't a house hold name yet, so we need one.

I am a Vol fan and will always be one. My feeling at this point is not good. If we do not salvage this class and provide the skill players necessary to fill some holes, Dooley will have an impossible task to complete in the SEC. We lost alot of good players this year and more next. We know next year will be bad, 6-6 at best..so recruiting is not likely to get better....Let's hope Dooley pulls it off.

On another note:
I am a daddy again.......my wife gave birth to Rebekah Danielle on 1/10/10. She was 8lbs 8 oz and 22inches long. It might be important to know, she was 3 weeks early. Pat if your watching don't retire if she's any good she will be all VOL!!!!

Congratulations on your little girl. I too just had a little girl. me and my wifes first 1-5-10 her name is Roxy Rose, she was 8lbs 13oz and was 8 days late. 21 3/4inches. yeah our 2 girls could run the show playing at TBA on the SUMMITT.:clapping:

No, I respectfully disagree. Once you get this late in the process, kids are going to take the full allotment of time. Look at most of the kids we already had. They have been thinking about being a Vol for months. These kids are thinking about it for weeks. Give the coach time. He is getting 4* players here in a week's worth of recruiting time. He is a proven recruiter and will right this ship in the next year. And it is GBO!!!

I think its ridiculous that some are writing CDD off because of his record at LA Tech. No, Im sure there is no one impressed with 17-20 record. I do not expect CDD to pull what is left of this recruiting season out of the gutter that LK left it in. I venture to say that if the Vols have a rough season next year people will be calling for CDD to be fired. That would be entirely fair for him and whatever coaching staff he can get. CDD cannot make coaches come to UT. Some have been offered jobs and they declined it for whatever reason. I believe the coach will do fine.

Seriously? In two weeks? Maybe some Jedi mind tricks to make recruits come back to Tennessee? "You will play football at the University of Tennessee" Or "You will come and be DC at UT and not stay at Clemson". Dooley, what do you mean you cant MAKE them come here? You mean you cant pull this stuff out of your rear? Unreal

You are really starting to sound like a broken record! I think this is the only thing you have said in your past previous 10 posts I have seen.

Move on and get over the record! It was La Tech for God's sake! I think Dooley's explained himself well when defending hisdecision to coach there and I believe he is better off for it. At least he has the balls to take those risks and grow as an individual!

of course he's willing to take the Tennessee job
he was making 400,000 dollars a year in Ruston, La, and Hambone and UT's giving him $2.4MM

It doesn't take a rocket scientist to make that decsion

I know as well as anyone, all the second guessing isn't going to change the fact that he's the coach, he's running through the T, and leading the Team

I want him to do well

I just think Hambone, could have gotten someone that wasn't such a risk
