Our speculation of an announcement of a coaching change, be it effective immediately or at the end of the season, has usually centered around the Alabama game.
That's also the weekend the '98 players will be in town for the reunion and to debut the DVD.

A big reason that has often been given for retaining Fulmer is that he is a national championship coach. I find it highly ironic that he is probably on his way out during the season in which we are supposed to be celebrating the 10-year anniversary of his greatest accomplishment.

The reunion most likely is on Hamilton's mind and will somehow affect the timing of any announcement.

It sickens me that Foolmer always seems to get a free pass because he won a championship 10 YEARS AGO!!!:banghead2:

didnt think about that. looks like a mid season change is not going to happen unless we get beat by miss state and get blown out by ala. But im not so sure a midseason change would be best anyways. I will be glad when all this drama is over and we have our new HC in place.

That 10yr reunion could be kind of lame if we go in at half down by 28 points.

I was in school at Tennessee during the '98 season. There is nothing like hearing the words:
"Please welcome your #1 ranked Volunteers!!!"

There hasn't been anything like it (for Tennessee) since. 10 years. That is a long time to wait for greatness.

What about a retirement announcement after the 10 year reunion?

On a side note... I find the "10 year reunion" a big joke.
"Ten long years ago... we won"

What about now??

10 years doesn't seem like that long of a wait considering the drought before then. I remember asking my dad when I was a kid, "if UT is such a good program, why haven't we won a NC since the 60's?"

Still can't believe he fell asleep midway through the 1st quarter and missed it.

10 years is a long time.
Wasn't 41 years before Fulmer?
Anyway, time for change.

You're too young to have any kind of notable frame of reference. I have been a fan since the 60's. Vols didn't win a SEC football championship from 1969 to 1985 and it was 47 years between national championships.

You'd think 10 years would be more of an embarassment than a celebration.:bad:

It's a reunion. As in: The players who played and won 10 years ago are coming back together to celebrate not only their accomplishment in 1998, but to celebrate their lives since.

What is is about a reunion that is such a joke? Tell your wife that anniversaries don't matter, and go ahead and throw away that class reunion letter.

In fact, let's do away with Homecoming. Who cares about people that went to school here 5,10,20,50 years ago!

Best case scenario has been posted in another thread: Fulmer announces his retirement at season's end either right before the Bama game or in the next week. He would go out with the congratulations of the fans, hell the team may even play better trying to send him out on a high note.

You don't know me. How can you make such a general and absolute statement?
I have been a fan since 1980 (really 1975, but I didn't really know what was going on until the 80s).

I still put on my orange every week....but if we don't make a change, it will be another 47 years till we win big.

I for one can't wait! I've enjoyed seeing every one of the players they've honored so far. I have clapped and cheered and seen them on the field. I didn't get to go to a single game in '98, had watched them all on tv. I feel bad that our current team isn't doing better, and that they don't get a better reception at the games.

I'm thankful I get to enjoy, AGAIN, one of the greatest Volunteer moments of my life. I have plenty of friends who pull for schools that will never experience something like this.

Our NC wasn't that great anyway. We beat a bad FSU team with quite a few backups in by what, a TD?

I went to grad school with an FSU grad who never stopped pointing out that it was their #3 QB. Of course, he didn't draw attention to the fact that their #3 QB was good enough to beat Florida that year.

If only we had a better fate vs. 3rd string QBs this year. :cray:
