I doubt the rigors of the East Tennessee schedule will have prepared him for the hits he'll take in the SEC. He may not fumble against Montana or Buffalo, but I have a feeling Florida teeing off on him will be an eye-opening experience.

I'm sure it will. If you don't think it is for kids from other states too, you're mistaken.

When you're in a state with 2 4* athletes, the level of talent you are competing with will rarely prepare you for that next level. Considering his job will be to avoid skilled tacklers, which I'm positive he never had to do at Bearden, it's safe to assume he will be way behind the curve.

I don't think it will be just handed to Young. In film of Lane before his injury, he was a good punt returner. I don't care who it is as long as they can catch the ball.

Doubftul. And by doubtful, I mean highly, highly unlikely. He'll never see the field, and 3 years from now, people will wonder what Young is doing on the team.

We have plenty of people who can catch the ball. It's an issue of knowing when to wave your hand, when to not touch the ball, and know how to secure the ball when you're on the run. I'd rather our coaches work with what we have, teach them when to not touch the ball, and utilize that scholarship.

It doesn't matter, though. He'll be on the team and I'll cheer for him regardless. I just think he's a poor addition to our team at this time.

pretty sure we had fair catches dropped this year so it's not as easy a skill as you make it out to be

I am in the camp of wait and see what these new kids can do before I say if they are a waste of scholarship. Right now, just catching the ball is a huge step up from anybody we have on the team.

exactly. Our best punt returns were when we had no one back to touch the ball

If it is a FR then Randolph or the JC Lanier (if he qualifies)

True, but to assume that there isn't a single guy on our team that can, therefore making it a necessity to sign a guy who might possibly be able to do it? Sounds like a serious stretch

Our best returner was David Oku. The fact that he was removed from the position shocks me. Still. As I've said before, he actually caught the ball and secured it until being tackled. Instead of taking that security, the staff continually tried to catch lightning in a bottle, and kept turning the ball over.

Slightly more than the state of Kentucky and less than Mississippi. Hell, I dunno. Jacques Smith looked like he could handle it. Teauge sure wasn't lacking in toughness. I remember hearing of Eric Gordon being one of the more physical DBs his first fall here.

If Dooley thought he did, I doubt Young ever gets offered. Think of all the guys he went through in games, I'm sure there were much more in practice.

That's why I didn't say nobody gets through and produces. It's a rare thing. And all the guys you've mentioned were highly sought after. Young? Not so much.

I'm just talking about being able to take a hit. I'm not sure what being a 5 star or a no star has to do with that.

To say DY has played against inferior teams, wouldn't it be safe to say possibly he's had success running behind an inferior OL or Kick Return team. Not saying East Tennessee High School football is the same as SEC football but there are some powerhouse teams out East and I'm sure the UT strength and conditioning program is so much better than it was at his high school.
