I'm beginning to feel the breeze of the so-called 'perfect storm'. Most of the pieces are falling in place for the Vols to finish ranked in the Top 10.

Here's the current BCS Top 25 and what's happened in the bowl season. The Dawgs are looking great against Hawaii (24-3 with about 7 minutes left in the first half). If this plays out as expected, how can we miss?

As crazy as it seems, we're probably looking at being 11th or 12th at worst.

I'd agree with that...and it does seem a little crazy.

If West Virginia and/or Kansas get beaten convincingly, it is probably going to happen. And as overranked as Kansas looks and with all the turmoil at WVU, it's a distinct possibility.

dn't see us passing WVU, regardless of outcome. TX has some prayer of passing us, though that would be a travesty. Hard call since our last half of play was so unconvincing.

would we have the dubious distinction of having the most losses ever by a top 10 team?

Do you think Kansas, West Virginia, and Hawaii can lose without any consequence?
Kansas is the only one out of your group that I was talking about and if they lose and keep it close then they may stay in the top 10.

Take a moment to see the positive, BPV. I know you can do it.:)

not sure about that, but LSU is the first 2 loss team to play for a NC.

I'd have to think that would probably be the case. Of course, this is the year that a 2 loss team made the Championship game, so all bets are off.

I agree. You can't even think about this year in the same way as the past. It's more complex. Parity reigned this year.

I also think the talent pool has gotten deeper and player evals are more important than ever when handing out schollies. Not every prospect is gonna be a star, and I think every team goes though that now. I have real high expectations for last years class though.

so being in the top 10 this season isn't the distinction that it typically has been? agreed?

At some point it becomes purely a numbers game. 20 years ago there were 240 million people in this country and 100 1A teams were handing out 100+ scholarships apiece. Now the population is over 300 million and they are handing out 85 apiece. There are more players and less scholarships, so parity is bound to occur.

Yes. College football is becoming much more competitive. All the more reason for some type of playoff.
