Lets see who thinks UT has been hiding the playbook in wait for this game.

I refuse to believe that this team is as bad as they've played and I choose to believe they have been playing with a very limited playbook.

The optimistic side of me says yes because there is no way we have regressed this much.

The pessimistic side of me says no because....Butch Jones.

Looking back at last year North Western game alone we are either hiding, or we lost that playbook and can't remember anything we did.

I don't think we are "hiding" all that much but I do think there was a concerted effort to not subject Dobbs to the wear/tear until need be, the game against UF...

There are some wrinkles like the jump pass, but we don't have an extra playbook or anything. There will be more Dobbs runs, a few gimmicks, and more of what we've seen the first three weeks. The Dobbs runs are what will be key.

I do wish we could see some of the quad option again. Bajakian was pretty successful with it. At least it's more enjoyable to watch than Hurd on an inside zone every other play.

Edit: And let's be honest, we weren't holding out too much when we were about to lose to Appy St. That was win now mode. The addition of Dobbs runs were the only real change.

you cannot run plays if you cannot block up front..the front 4 have to be better..not a fan of Debord and never have been..way to conservative for me with all this talent..

Not sure about the poll options.

I think we tried to go ultra vanilla vs App St. They definitely tried to minimize Dobbs running and didn't attempt anything too fancy formation wise. Then opened up more vs Va Tech and Ohio. Maybe not completely opened but we did what we had to.

There will be new wrinkles this week though. Bank on it.

We may not have showed all of the playbook, but we've certainly showed who we are from a preparation and toughness standpoint. I'll happily eat crow Saturday....I just don't believe we are a very good football team.

We have the same guys upfront as last year. I am not a fan of Debord either but there is no way we are worse than last year. They know what we are successful with and we havent seen a lot of stuff yet. Jet sweeps, more Dobbs runs, etc......

Yeah sure, down 13-3 in 4th against Appy , coaches said be conservative Gators are watching.

Yea that is why I don't get everyone saying we were conservative. That basically says we were willing to lose the game just to keep Florida in the dark.

Playbook isnt the problem IMO, it's execution and focus. It's not being able to line up and blow much smaller, much less talented players off the ball or keep them away from our QB. It's all the penalties, all the blown defensive assignments, all the fumbles, all the lethargic, uninspired play.

I have no doubt there are some wrinkles we haven't shown that'lol likely surface beginning this weekend. That's all we'll and good, but if the other things don't change, it ain't gonna much matter what we do or do not run IMO.

With the exception of some trick/gimmick plays like we saw against Florida last year, I don't think the coaches are hiding their arsenal. I think the very bland play calling is more a function of an underperforming offensive line then anything else. The runs up the middle are pretty infuriating to watch (and I feel for Hurd) but if the O Line can't block then longer developing run plays are going to be even worse. Also, if you can't give Dobbs much of a pocket to work with then you aren't going to take many shots down the field...bc each time you do is opening Dobbs up to getting hit hard.

With that said, I think there needs to be a little more trust in Dobbs. There were times last week where he looked really good throwing (minus the two bombs he missed) and when they get the passing going the defense has to respect it more...which obviously opens up running lanes.
