Have Vol Fans Overrated Bray?

Exactly. But also without the missed extra point it never would have mattered. Plus Janzens spearing personal foul also killed them. But the missed xtra point and the terrible play of our secondary put us in that position. Should never have come down to that, but definately should have been 15 yds and over because the ref called the game over. But our coachs will learn from it.

The spearing rule was apparently written in the rulebook for one game.

The refs completely dropped the ball the last 2 minutes of that game.

But anyways...

UF and Alabama are the two best defenses Bray will face (LSU is right up there too).

I'm not expecting a sophomore QB throwing to sophomore WRs with a sophomore OL to look like world beaters in the Swamp.

So your answer is no he won't play well against them... You are entitled to your opinion but according to you and sgm it's already a given that he will play bad against UF. He doesnt have to play like a world beater but it's possible for him to be a game manager against UF and put up average numbers.

Saw in Lindy's where an opposing SEC coach said he simply wasnt very good. Im not buying 100% into what an anonymous rival coach says, but 5 games do not a career make. I just wonder if we haven't managed to overstate what he has accomplished. IMO he has all the physical ability, just not sold on his commitment to the game. I have seen many on here ready to go ahead and hand him the Heisman. I think that very few college football fans outside of Tennessee think he is all that. IMHO, I believe that under the tutelage of Chaney he will develop into an elite level SEC QB, although as of this moment he has a ways to go.

Dooley said that at some point in this season, we will need Sims to win a game for us. That leads me to believe that Bray may not be totally ready.

I don't expect Bray to have 300 yards, 4+ TDs and look like an NFL QB against them (like so many on here want to say)

However, if he did do that against the Gators, I'd be grinning from ear to ear for a week and gladly eat crow on here.

The question of the thread is, "Have Vols fans overrated Bray?"

My answer is NO. They (myself included) are however guilty of hyper enthusiasm which may or may not be semi-justified. He played against weaker teams than Simms. However, in the few higher rated teams he faced, his QB performance was commendable. Notably USCe, and UNC. The 2011 season should give us an indication of whether Bray Fever is real or not. And Vols fans are no different than other university fans who get all gaga over a promising new player who shows glimpses of being a major playmaker.

Now once again, regarding your holier than thou attitude towards Bray, you may want to admit you're imperfect too. Bray is a youngster and like all of us, you included in case you're missing this, he has a lot to learn, especially at that age. To top it off, he's a California product thus influenced by California culture which includes being something of a show off. I dare say if you had been born and raised in that culture, you'd be more of a show off than you already are, Mr, Flag Waver and Judgmental Cross Hoist-Man for that's showing off too. The bottomline is that Bray is still growing physically, mentally, and morally. So it's a darn good thing he doesn't have to worry about you judging him instead of the final Judge of us all who takes everything into factor including where we are from and how it shapes our conduct. Psalm 87:6

Yet you just sat there and judged him for being from California. Come on man.

I like what I've seen from Bray so far. Will he be a future 1st Rounder, as almost everyone else has said, that remains to be seen. The only real negative I've seen is Bray lacks game management and a command of the short-passing game. Pretty much everything is a medium-long range pass. His deep pass is something to be excited about... long time since we've had that and complementary WRs to boot.

He has enormous potential but that guarantees nothing. If he wants it... it's his. Does he want to want it enough?

I'm a huge Bray fan. I think he's going to play in the NFL some day. I think he's going to put up some nice numbers in 2012. That being said, I think he's going to struggle against Florida, and I know people will be calling for Worley if that happens.

How about 3 td's with 258 yrds?

Actually I just want to get out of there with a W.:)

Its easy to look good when u had the weapons he had last year. Stocker, Hunter, Moore, Jones, and Rodgers. Just saying.

yeah look at all the senior first round picks he was throwing too - oh wait.....

Everyone continues to question the competition that Bray went against as the reason for his success, and that may be true but he didn't just do ok in those games he did great. Compare his stats against these teams to some of the better qb's in our league and you will see they didn't put those numbers up against those teams.

YDS CMP% LNG TD
@South Carolina L 38-24 159 60.0 62 2
@Memphis W 50-14 325 57.6 42 5
Mississippi W 52-14 323 52.9 80 3
@Vanderbilt W 24-10 232 59.3 34 2
Kentucky W 2 4-14 354 52.6 49 2

Bray has a lot of talent - I think he will be a great player - he is able to go vertical in the passing game which many college qbs just don't have the arm to do

worley may end up being good but we won't know that for awhile b/c Bray won't be off the field unless he gets hurt

Bray will go as far as his STUDY habits take him.
If he will prepare like Peyton Manning the sky is the limit.
If not he will end up sharing duties with others.

What SCvol said.

That would work.

People need to remember the UF game will be his first start outside of the state of Tennessee.

He'll be going against a very talented defense coached by a very good defensive mind.

He probably has the Best recievers in the SEC to throw to so that will help him also..Go Vols

here lies the problem. Some UT fans overestimate the talent at every position. UT has some good talent at WR but nowhere close to the talent other teams have. For instance, Bama has a stable of 4 & 5 star Wrs. Bama has 4 star players that are 3rd string at almost every position, does UT, NO. Bray will be an average QB, maybe a good QB, we will see when he actually plays against some good teams. Poole would be at the least the 4th string RB if he was at Bama. UT will get back in the running sooner or later but it will be later.

Leads me to believe he expects Stick to be broken at some point. OR, OR, OR, he pulls Bray because Bray (seems to me) doesn't really know how to stop slinging it and risking the game via interceptions. Bad Bray, bad, bad, bad. Not really, I think Bray has a killer instinct. He doesn't just want to win, he wants to twist the knife after he stabs you. Then use a hook to pull your guts out and feed them to Smokey I imagine. Simms does know how to manage a game and thus protect a lead.
