Have to be glad we kept Dooley

So he could provide some consistency in our program.

Here is the problem at Tennessee, coaches do not want to be here. They saw what happened to Fulmer with his outstanding win-loss record and do not want to be in the same boat. Alabama had the same thing going for them until they got Saban. Fulmer should have not gotten fired. True Tennessee fans will admit that was a mistake. The question now is are you a "True Tennessee Fan" or a bandwagon fan. True fans are here during the bad times as well. Dooley is here and they are not firing him for 2012. 2013 maybe.

Or he could have gotten a prompt firing after the KY game, Hart pays up big for a proven coach and recruiter for HC who then fills his staff quickly and effectively without the fear of the immediate future (Dooley). With Dooley we are settling for mediocrity. Hope it works out for him to some degree.

Please tell me who the big time name would have been.

I mean honestly I want to know what good firing Dooley today would actually do?? You HAVE to give him this year to have STABILITY! We may go 6-6 or 7-6 and I am all with you guys that want him gone... But firing him right now is not the way to go... Firing him now would only send our program into a deeper hole than it already is... Just suck it up and try and make the best out of our situation right now.. A 6-6 season with a Sh**y coach is way better than a 2-10 season with NO COACH... Suck it up and let the man try and do what he said he's going to do..

DD wont be fired this off season but any head coach should be able to get at least 6 wins with our roster and schedule next year. How do you figure we would go 2-10 and have no coach if we did fire him though? Almost any head coach we bring in will probably have a better resume than DD.

When I thin of attrition, I usually think of players...
With us, it seems to be coaches.

When Fulmer coached we never had anyone want our coaches and eventually it was an inbred system with no outside blood. When Majors was here people wanted lots of our coaches and many went on to do big things. If they didn't perform Ol Johnny showed them the door...I'll take what we have now over the same old people every year...Player-wise at least we have a full roster now...it should help

No Phil should have been fired about 5 years before then.

I have decided that I would have more respect with Dooley if he had simply fired everybody on staff and started the Saturday night after the UK game. Essentially that is what is happening anyway. Can't say it is not embarrassing.

Should have just started handing the pink slips out in the fourth quarter.

he needs a pink slip himself

you mean like losing to UK, yeah I agree :good!:

Lost to Vandy in '05, Memphis in '96... Not to mention a ton of close calls against inferior teams. It happens to every program. By a lot of people's opinions around here, Bama should have fired Saban when he went 6-6 the first season and lost to La-Monroe. I know Saban had that next season that was good, but that was an exception, not the rule. Sometimes it's good to be lucky as well. We're about due for a little luck, ourselves!! Sit back and enjoy the ride, we'll be fine!

People who say CDD must be retained now so UT has stability are just Dooler homers who have decided winning at UT is no longer important. This staff has ZERO stability now. We are moving forward with a losing HC. Recruits are starting to see what alot of us has seen for months. CDD will NOT be able to hire a top DC now as he has shown nothing but the ability to lose.

The recruits that are currently Vols have chose to be Vols because of Tennessee. If Hart were to fire CDD this afternoon and name a new HC later this evening we would not lose many recruits if any. If they will play for a loser, they will play for a winner. The only things that hiring a winner would do is cause recruits who had passed on UT to look at us again and it would give us hope going into 2012 that a competative team would be on the field.

no Fulmer needed to be fired but with our admin not hiring up but hiring down we should of just kept Phil. We would be in better shape, not great but I bet we wouldn't be interviewing people like Buddy Green

I detect a distinct slippage in the Doolander approval ratings.

The UTAD made the choice to accept mediocrity and give Dooley another shot at it back in early December. But - he has this season to get it right with significant improvement or Hart will bring in a bigger fish IMO. I still hate it for the existing players. The position coaches are who they live with on the practice field and most of them are gone this season. How much confidence do they have in what is going on? Lack of confidence and trust spells mediocrity on the field again in 2012 IMO - unless something radical for the better happens in the locker room and in the football smarts of the coaching staff between now and then.

I'm personally glad we have Dooley. Our roster looks much better than it has in the past few years and we were looking pretty good as a team until the Florida game. Hunter's injury hurt bc our lack of depth affected our versatility on offense...

We all should be thankful bc if he bombs next season, he's our version of Mike Shula...filling the cupboard for the next coach to succeed. If he wins 8+ games, the sky will be the limit for Vol Nation.

I'm exagerating of course.. Yes anyone should be able to go 2-10... But firing a coach now is a bad idea.. I don't understand what some of these people on here are thinking..

1. By firing now... You probably lose a whole recruiting class... We've see what happens when you lose a class... It's makes a huge depth gap on your roster...

2. You probably don't get the guy you want in here.. Who wants to come into a program that broken???

If you give the guy a chance and he doesn't get it done then fire away... At the end of the season! you have plenty of time to get a Big name and big staff... We can get a good class and you don't lose a whole lot.. If anything you can UPGRADE on what you already have... For all you people that want Dooley fired right now... get over it... It's not going to happen... If you don't like it then hand in your card.....

I think it was all a pipedream to think that on one hand Hart won't give any contract extensions to current staff and on the other expect to get a BIG hire. This really falls on Hart now, moreso than Dooley.

Dooley made HIMSELF (not negative fans) a lame duck coach by losing to Kentucky. When you do that (and come within a frog hair distance to losing to Vandy), you just bought yourself a one way ticket out of town.

Hart not having the fortitude to cut his losses after that debacle is why we are going through all of this. Neither he nor Dooley realize yet, that losing to both of those teams is THE unpardonable (coaching) sin...at Tennessee.

I don't entirely disagree. I do think the process of hiring was going to be a litmus test for Dooley (in Hart's eyes).

A couple of differences . Saban had a bad year one like DD but Saban was a known winner. He earned the faith he would get it done based on past results. DD past shows nothing but losing as a head coach and no coordinator experience. No one said fire Dooley after one year. But NS brought in way more talent his first two years and season two had showed vast improvement of the team. DD's second year we got worse.

How old are you?? This is the dumbest thing I have heard all day... and it's not even lunch time... You expect Hart to hire a new HC without Interviews?? lol Contracts and all in one day?? Not even that.. ONE AFTERNOON???! lol IT DOESN'T WORK LIKE THAT!!!!
