It seems that the Vols have become the rejects in the college football world. It's a sad day when we can't even get Cutcliffe to return as head coach. Who is going to save our program?

Mikey: See! Thats what I said! You always contradict me... I knowwhat I was saying. It was on the history of Astoria and these are the rejects!
Chunk: Kinda like us... Mikey. The Goonies.

I don't think we are the Goonies of the college world, I just think nobody wants to be a douche like Lame to his old team. The media has had a field day crucifying him, and I don't think a coach with a smidge of integrity wants to be that guy that leaves another school high and dry with three weeks before signing day. I say we let Kippy coach next year as an interim, then go get the right guy instead of looking like the whores of the college football world and taking what's left!

Wasn't there a line in that movie that Goonies never surrender or quit? So yes Tennessee, in that respect, we are like the Goonies. And like the movie in the end, we will win.

It's all on the AD, that's all. Piss poor, neglect, not knowing any better because he's a businessman first. It's fine to be a good businessman but you need to have a ounce or two of fan in you also or maybe have some coaching experience thrown in there. The fact this guy has neither is why it is what it is. He's just not qualified to run the football program, he's out of his league.

It's all about the timing.... This is a critical time in any CFB program's existence and it's going to be hard to find a big name coach willing to leave his program in the lurch like ours left us..... I think that's the main reason Hammy is trying to exhaust the nfl route..... After NSD if we haven't hired anybody then it'll be different.... Just my thought on the matter.

Hammy doesn't even qualfy there.... Giving Kiffin a basically open door to walk away (800,000 dollar buyout??? What was he thinking?) from us with no repurcussions....

This is the worse time possible to hire a coach. I think that is part of the problem, but he other problem is that these coaches don't want to take on the challenge of trying to win in the SEC against teams like Florida, Alabama, LSU, etc,. when they can make just about as much and win in the weaker conferences they are coaching in. Can't really blame them.

Tennessee football is great and Cutcliffe would take the job in a second if it was truly offered to him.

It's January 15th.

You just finished up most of your recruiting class.

The school that wants to hire you just lost a lot of theirs.

Signing day is in just a few weeks. Not much time to salvage anything.

We have 3/4 of a Roster.

We want wins now, regardless.

There will be a lot more pressure than at your current job.

Half the fans will hate you, half will proclaim you're a God, then when you don't win 10 games next year will turn on you.

You can't bring your staff, because there is 3/4 of one in place already.

....

Would you take this job right now?

There's a big difference between an opening January 15th and an opening at the end of the season. Most of the available guys aren't available now.

I think it's more to do with timing and a shortage of good college coaches out there. I also think UT kept Phil 2 years too long. Just my take....

I the past few days, we have heard the name of every coach that has anything to do with football, both college and professional. The truth of the matter is that no one knows what is going on. If you remember the previous search, Hammy did a wonderful job keeping the process private. Even though the outcome of that search let us with a bitter taste, it did succeed to bring a new zest to a stagnant program. We now demand for a different type of program that we had before. I have total trust that Hammy is on the right track. I hope he doesn’t prove me wrong. All the criticism is just speculation. Tennessee is a premier program. Hammy let Lane leave, yes. I like the way he handled it. If he does not want to be a part of our tradition, we do not need him. He did not turn out to be the kind of guy that we need representing the University of Tennessee. Let Hammy do his job. This is Tennessee. We will never settle for second rate.

Ok there is now way Cutcliffe was offered, you don't turn down UT for Duke regardless of staff decisions... No way Calhound was offered, he scheduled a meeting with his team so early in the day when it became apparent the "media" thought he was a target, you don't schedule a meeting 6 hours after the rumor starts to tell people you are leaving, you schedule a meeting that late to tell them you are staying(an try to get a salary boost in the mean time)... Not sure on Mustychamp(never really saw the appeal with him...) was he offered maybe, but I doubt it..
