I've been out today and haven't checked volnation much. Now I'm dropping in, I just want to say this is an excellent post.

I fall slightly further on the Pearl side than you do, but that's fine. I agree 100% with the sentiment here. Have some faith in the program.

Yes, i think most of the hate today is coming from non-fans, but lawvol13 is a true ut fan that i just dont agree with but i respect his/her opinion.

Thanks for the comments, gentleman. It's nice to see that we do have some people that rationally discuss things even if we occasionally disagree.

I'd first like to express my gratitude to Bruce Pearl for what he's done for this program. I've often questioned things about his coaching philosophy, but I've never questioned him being a good coach. His results speak for themselves. The Elite Eight last year was the proudest UT sports moment I've had since the '98 National Championship; it's something I'll always remember.

Now, it is clear that now is the time to start anew with the basketball leadership, and many seem to think that that means an instant return to mediocrity. I understand your devotion to Bruce Pearl to an extent, but have some faith in our program, especially considering what it is today compared to what it was when Bruce Pearl took it. We have one of the premier arenas in the nation; we have a state of the art practice facility; we're top 5 in attendance; we were paying a coaching salary that ranked in the top 10 in the country; we've made the NCAA tourney 10 out of the last 14 years. We can get a good coach here. Have a little faith.

Well said.

An excellent post. We have committed to basketball as an administration. We would not have spent the money on the renovation of the arena and built a state of the art practice facility unless there was a commitment to the basketball program. The UT administration will make a decision that is in the best interest of the program and university. We will not choose to make this level of commitment and then just decide that any coach will be fine and not care about the success of the program. Just let his play out and basketball will be fine at UT.
