Remember. The replacing of Fulmer, then Kiffen. Who turned us down?

Tennessee Football Coaching Job May Simply Be That Unattractive.

I posted this on 9/2/2017. Replies were to the essence that the program was in much better shape now than at that time. Lets review. 0-8 in the conference 4-8 overall.
We have been turned down by at least 4 coaches and will more than likely be turned down by more.

I'm going back to my original statement and say. "Tennessee Football Coaching Job May Simply Be That Unattractive" And the reason? The fan base. What coach in their right mind would want to coach with a bunch of lunatics grading and posting on chat boards things as minor as "healthy lunch" was not chosen by coach (unnamed) today.

Gundy turned down 42 mil. Who would do that. That's Saban money, Ill tell you. Coaches that read this board.

Now before you tell me I know nothing about Tennessee football. I'm 70 years old, attended my first game 62 years ago. Was probably a Tennessee fan before that...I just didn't realize it. My father held season tickets 12 years prior to me attending my first game, and those tickets have been in the family ever since. So, Ive seen a few games and a few coaches.

So now we are going to get a Mid Major HC or a Power 5 coordinator as our new head coach, and that fellow fans is on the fan base.

What coach would want to coach at a school where it's fanbase poisons the trees of its rivals and kills fellow fans over football disputes? 🤔🤔🤔

I think a lot of what you're seeing is coaching now wanting to get hired by a lame duck AD in Currie. That's just my take on it. He wasn't well liked at KSU and it looks like it's carried over to here. How he still is employed blows me away.

Other than try to hire a new football coach, what exactly has he done wrong?

Had we gone after a major target before the Schiano thing, it probably would habe been different. Besides if we are an undesirable job, that's on the AD and Haslam poisoning the well in an effort to retain power.

We could have hired Gary Patterson instead of Kiffin. So that ends this thread.

The fact that you're 70 means you don't understand what's going on. Thanks for being a fellow fan, but we have all suffered too much the last 10 years, it is NOT the fans' fault. These complacent mentalities have to be purged if we want to compete. Do you think Auburn or Alabama would tolerate what has gone on the last 10 years? Wake up

The only thing that is unattractive about the job is working for a Jimmy Haslam puppet. Coaches know that Jimmy Haslam has a lot of power in the AD and they don't want anything to do with him.

lol....No. Alabama would not tolerate the last 10 years of football the way Tennessee has played it. The difference the AD would have hired a coach, and said, like it, or leave it. Tickets sell themselves.

The job became unattractive after Currie caved to fan complaints and backed out of the Schiano ageeement. No coach would want to work for an AD this isn't going to have his back.

Not saying that shouldn't have happened, just that it did and Currie is toxic now. Add in that his job security could be in question and you've got a big reason why coaches are passing. Prior to Sunday I think it was a very atttactive job. We have some talent, fans are supportive, Butch was given a fair shot and it's not a questionable firing. Just needed to be willing to spend money to get a coach.

The fan complaints starting Sunday are a symptom of the poor leadership we've seen at UT for years now. In general our fans are no different than any other SEC school. But it's hard to say that others SEC football teams have been plagued by this level of incompetence. Selecting an unproven middle tier coach that has potential controversy over him was the last straw.

Not putting this all on Currie but what happened to UT athletics? We used to have a premier men's baseball team, track team, swimming team, women's basketball team, etc. Never hear anything about the track team from which we used to steal track stars for our football team like Stanley Morgan; women's basketball coach should have been let go after Pat Summit retired; just seems like it has all gone to hell. Sad state of affairs. :cray:

No we don't. Stop doing that and the coach will still be paid by the school. Take the average cost of a football ticket and multiply by the capacity of Neyland, you think it comes close to running the football program? Oh and don't forget to subtract the student ticket price.
