Hate to be the bubble burster

Agree. There are a ton of Chicken Littles on VN. Oh woe is me. I did not expect them to be hitting on all cylinders in the first game. Milton has a ton of talent but is a work in progress that Heupel is going to have to harness. Running backs better than I thought. Defensive line got more pressure than all of last year including against the lesser teams on the schedule. Too many dropped passes by Hyatt. Cost them a couple of key first downs and at least one TD. Chalk it up as a win and get better for Pitt.

Hyatt has been dropping passes in practice per reports, he needs to get it together ASAP because he is uber talented

I too would like to offer my hot take on how the full season and even Heupel era will fall out based on the results of the first game, in the first year, against Bowling Green.

We were holding back. No need to beat the very worst team in football any worse. Can’t show BAMA what we got yet.
The only team they are worried about showing anything is Pitt. Good coaches aren’t prepping for Tennessee until 1-2 weeks before. Otherwise you get beat. See Pruitt and Georgia State.

"Drove it down the field"? How many sustained drives did Bowling Green have? The answer is two. They had seven 3-and-outs, and another drive (off a fumble recovery) that was a turnover on downs without a first down. They only picked up a first down on 3 out of 12 possessions. Say what you will of Milton, but the defense was not an issue last night. Not even a little bit.

Aside from the 2 possessions in the second quarter BG didn't hardly move the ball at all. They found a little something till we made another adjustment, but they only had 218 total yards. We had 10 minus yardage plays and 2 sacks and numerous hurries. I though both sides of the line of scrimmage controlled both side pretty well over all. If Milton had played a little better and hit on 1 or both of the long passes to Tillman I think folks would be looking at our offense performance more favorably. It was the first game, yes alot to improve on, But we did battle and compete hard all 4 quarters. GBO!!!!!

March down the field? I agree I would have loved to have seen a 3 and out on every drive but let’s be a little realistic we aren’t that good even if Tom Landry was our coach. Did Milton suck? Pretty much but the defense actually showed improvement for most of the game along with the running game. We aren’t a good team but did show some improvement in certain areas.
Agreed, I was pleased with the Defense, O-Line and Running Game. Passing Game was awful (Milton and Hyatt)

This is just..... stupid. The last time Tennessee beat an SEC team (that wasn't Vandy) by 30+ points was Kentucky in 2015. Beating South Carolina 38-6 would be a freaking gift from God.

You underestimate the lengths VN will go to undercut a W my friend. This is how this exact win would go against SCAR:

“well SCAR doesn’t really have SEC talent”
“We’re gonna get reamed by KY/Bama/UGA!!”
Variations on “It was just luck”

A 38-6 win of any SEC team (except maybe Vandy) should be considered a really really good win. Bowling Green, though? Not so much.

I just don’t see it. Our running backs are great especially Evans performance. Allowed a 126 ranked out of 127 offense March down the field on us keep it close. Qb position IMO is wide open. I could almost see 2 qbs playing equal time next game.
Some MI fans have weighed in and said Milton has still not improved and has all the same bad habits.

He was the back up qb and filled in for a total one and a half games at ISU before transferring out. He has never been the starting qb in his 5 year career until now. Milton was the starter at Michigan for several games until he got hurt. Why is this difficult for you?

That is wrong. He started 5 games at Iowa State, and some at NDSU before Trey Lance took over the starting role.

It could be worse. A LOT worse. If this was a Pruitt team we might lose that game. I shudder to think what this place would be like had we lost. I'd bet BG is nowhere near as bad as guys are saying. Last year was last year. Teams get better and teams get worse. I bet BG challenges for the MAC title...just because.

Did you see Hooker play last night? He performed poorly against the second string and want to give him equal time as Milton against Pitt?! 🤦🏻‍♂️

WHAT WE LEARNED---From Las Vegas.
Tennessee is not good. They will get rolled by almost every team they play in the SEC. Their Michigan transfer at QB will lead them nowhere. I love Heupel because I am a life long OU fan but he is going to have a rough year or 3 and be out of a job. They ran the ball well but were 7-15 on 3rd down and 1-3 on 4th down. They will not be able to run like this against the SEC.

Arizona st. was not impressive. 13 penalties for 135 yards and 2 TO's vs an FCS team is a bad omen. They did force 4 TO's but they still only won by 27 in a game they should have easily won by 6 TD's. Herm Edwards could have been watering down his offense but even with that the passing numbers are weak.

NC State is who we thought they were. They roll easily and shut out the Bulls. I think this team will mix the ACC up and get double digit wins.

The Ohio St. TT was a tough loss. It took a Defensive scoop and score and scoring plays of 71, 38, 56, 70, and 61 for the buckeyes to bust the TT over 38.5, and thats after only scoring 10 in the first half. I will be looking at Stroud in his next game to see if he looks comftorable and if the Ohio st. defense gets a little more stout.

Unfortunately, even with a vanilla offense, the QB HAS to hit wide open receivers. An amazingly strong arm is useless if you have no touch on any throw. Hopefully, they can teach him with this first game to put a little air under the ball and let the speedsters run under it.

Yeah, we are hiding our screen pass game. Holy moly.

yea, we are not only holding back, but also tricking and laying trap for Pitt;
hiding Venus Jones (want to keep him a secret)
dropped passes (will catch them all nx wk)
defense allowing passing yardage (will smother receivers nx wk)
Milton pass over throws (will be dropped in receivers lap perfectly nx wk)
Milton ran in slow motion (will run for 200 yards nx wk)
Milton did not see open receivers (will not miss a one nx wk)
Milton hard fast throws (will show his beautiful loft nx wk)
Milton laughing when things not going good (will show more serious side nx wk)
agree…..Holy moly

The defense was certainly better, albeit it was bowling green. What stands out to me is Heupel came here with a bunch of promises to build an electric offense and be a QB guru, and last night Tennessee couldn’t even hang 40 on one of the worst teams in the country. To boot, Milton was utterly terrible. No better than what he was at Michigan. It was a one possession game going into the half. Yeah, morale is better and Heupel has a better message than Pruitt. That much is true. I don’t really see what about yesterday makes you so excited though. We should’ve smacked them at home. What ended up happening teetered on embarrassing. If it was any closer, the rest of the SEC would be laughing harder than they already are.

Where did I say I was excited? Just because Im not calling a crisis hotline? You need to chill out and not worry about what the "rest of the SEC" is doing.

Milton definitely has some things to work on, he was two bad balls from this team putting up 50, so let's keep things in perspective. I want to see He, and the team get better each game. If they accomplish that, this team will be right where they need to be.
