Ancient history. It is not an issue today. The story is from 2010.

OBB, I think you got head-faked by the caption under the photo in the article. It does mention an event that "will" happen in "November 2010" (meaning the caption was written prior to that).

But everything in the article itself is current. The first induction ceremony adding men to the HoF will be at this year's (2016) O&W game. Neyland is not included. In short, the article is current and relevant. And Adams does make a good point about how Neyland should be included.

So for those who feel the need to toss some feces Adams' way, yell at him for not editing the caption for the photo he used. That's the only mistake he made this time, far as I can tell. :good!:

p.s. Here's the press release / story direct from UT AD and the Vols Sports home page. Adams clearly pulled his facts from it: 2016 Tennessee Athletics Hall of Fame Class Announced - University of Tennessee Official Athletic Site

I first saw the link on a tweet this a.m.

It would be like:

The Yankees having a HOF and not including Casey Stengel, or Alabama having a HOF and not including Bear Bryant or Notre Dame having a HOF and not including Knute Rockne or the Celtics having a HOF and not including Red Auerbach or the Cowboys having a HOF and not including Tom Landry.

Every night before every person, male or female, employed at the UTAD crawls in bed, they should drop to a knee and thank God above for Robert R. Neyland and the monster he built. Otherwise, there wouldn't be anything for us to fight about.....

I will never read or agree with JA's articles or opinions, he is butt hurt over his exclusion from the AD for just reasons, he has no integrity and his responses are normally reactionary to his past criticisms of UT and coaches. I don't F****** care if there is a "Free Press" issue here, JA has a long standing reputation for unsubstantiated claims and accusations, he doesn't deserve a front seat in the UT Complex........JMO.

It is pure BS to have Bowden Wyatt in the hall of fame and not Gen. Neyland. Same goes for including Alan Cockrell and not Todd Helton. If Hart had considerable input being the Ole Bama Guy that he is he is probably b---hurt that Bryant couldn't beat General Neyland.

Considering Bryant never beating Neyland had nothing to do with Bama I seriously doubt that's the case.

Neyland should clearly be in...for more than just his coaching accomplishments. Stadium expansion plans and the Vol Network alone should qualify him. Add the coaching to it and there's no doubt.

from my understanding (listening to sports talk in the am) this was a misunderstanding. Clear directions not given, and the woman who was tasked for the first inductees only had a mindset of picking players. No doubt they will be added. It is possibly a oops. Lets hope so.

This seems like an attempt to make nice with the Women's side of the athletic department. Considering that this lawsuit likely originated over antagonism about the Lady Vol nickname and anger over consolidation of the department, this seems like a pragmatic idea. This is a small issue and Tennessee's heroes will not be forgotten just because they don't have a plaque in a building.
Tennessee also invests a lot into Women's athletics. This is a good way to show women recruits that their side will be treated equally.

The 71 people selected should have been easy. General Neyland, Coach Fulmer and everyone who finished second in the Heisman voting. Presto! There's your 71.

Pretty much sums up the way the UTAD handles anything.

If it's players only, then no Summitt, and that is supposed to mollify women's fans?
That's as bad as leaving off Neyland.

I don't know where Adams got his facts but I was at the TN Hall of Fame last year and Neyland is there. Inductees  The Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame?s goal is to enshrine successful teams and individuals who display sportsmanship, good character and success, creating a legacy for others to follow.  These inductees remain involved as valuable members of
Maybe there are too many Halls of Fame. ??

Haha, yep, I noticed that this morning while running down the facts. There is a Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame (in Nashville?) that is entirely different than the UNIVERSITY of Tennessee Athletes Hall of Fame. The first has Tennessee Titans and Belmont players and on and on, in addition to UT players and coaches.

The article is about the UT hall, not the Tennessee-wide one.

That makes sense.
