I haven't seen anything on it but I was wondering if he has been introduced to the press during a press conference, answered questions, etc.

Has he started working yet?

I did a quick check of UT sports and YouTube, nothing other than when CDD made the announcement.

I would say that he has already started working and the moving vans are rolling.

Some have suggested that CDD adopted Saban's rule, where assistant coaches don't talk to the press.

this. you beat me to it. I hope it s not true because I really enjoyed listening to the assistants on the coach's show... esp. Chaney.

They are not allowed to talk to the media or w/e now. Saban rule. Don't know what we gain from this maybe more time to focus on recruiting.

That sucks. I always thought that rule was pretty childish. Seems like most assistant coaches would want more exposure than that to help their career. BTW, isn't it the Belichek rule? I'm pretty sure Saban picked it up from him.

But hasn't Chuck Smith already done Atlanta radio? Maybe being a former member of the media gives him press access. :good!:

"Too busy" may be the reason given. But my guess is:

a. one voice - distractions caused by either a slip of the tongue by an asst, or actual friction in the ranks could be avoided by just hearing the party line from the head coach.

b. CDD is a lawyer, and head coach, so its in his best career interests to speak for all of his peeps.

And I don't really think he cares how you or the press view this rule.

All that other stuff was nice (the assts on the coaches show, etc), but however he accomplishes it, winning with class is the only thing I care about from CDD.

I believe reason A is correct but it seems ridiculous that he doesn't trust his assistants any more than this.

I have no idea what you mean by reason B unless you're saying he's a control freak. That is what I always assumed about Saban when I heard this rule.

Maybe it doesn't matter what we think but the question is how do his assistants view it? Saban is notorious for burning through assistants and shutting them off from the media (his players are allowed to talk the media btw, except freshman) may not help.

BTW, wouldn't this have been an awesome rule for Kiffin to have implemented. He could tell the assistants that no one makes an a@@ of themselves in front of the media but me.

The last BTW made me chuckle! He certianly should have implemented it before his USC presser when the LA reporters got O to admit he called our recruits......"listen Ed I'm the guy that makes up our lies not you, and we certainly don't tell the truth...got it? Dad you keep acting nice. Remember team I'm the head a$$ hole.

I think CDD wants all the focus on the program and not on the coaches like Kiffin and Special Ed

I agree, and I'm not sure of the rules, but I'd imagine the HC is required to speak to the media at certain times, either from the school or the TV contract. And I bet that's all you'll get from CDD, no more, no less, for the reason quoted above.
