Has This Team Quit?

I think she hit the nail on the head. What the hell does it matter if she just became a UT fan? You can make that assumption without having any ties to the university by just reading the outlandish comments. There are a ton of fair weather fans on here. Not to mention fans that have absolutely no clue.

Amen Vol brother

Just a few points from a former player's point of view. When a team is hitting threes like Vandy did and Fla did it does not matter what defense you play. Watched George Gervin score 60 plus in a game where he was tripled teamed the entire game. Hit 5 three pointers in a row in under 2 minutes is a game myself. When you are on you are on. If you remember Chris Lofton, he did this many times no matter what defense they played against him. Sometimes you are just in the groove. Yes our defense is not that good but tired players make mistakes. We do not have enough healthy players to make a run all season long and that is fact. Do we have deficiencies, yes. Will it take some time and a few new classes of players before we get better yes. Are we considered a basketball school, no. You are just going to have to give coach T some time to right the ship the same as Butch had to do. Please have some patience and give him a chance instead of trying to throw him and the team under the bus. Be realistic. Please.

Preach! :clapping:
Your loyal fans understand. But your Fair Weather Vols...I just SMDH.

It is very hard to try to get behind this coach and support him.

Why? Because he has lost several games in a row? Very short-sighted. This is the problem with our society. We expect instant gratification.

Not necessarily saying that he will be here a long time, but Donnie Tyndall can coach basketball. He had to put a roster together in a month. This kind of thing just drives me crazy. The guys play hard, but we are lacking talent right now.

How many times do we have to tell these numskulls about what occurred after CM left for Cal? They will never understand that there were no ready to be NBA hs stars left to be recruited. Also, we only had 1 starter returning from 2013-14. The guys CDT brought in will grow up and get better and when they do, our team is gonna be very fun to watch!

Funny indeed how some folks just look over the fact that we have a team that is totally exhausted playing only 9 players through a 28 game season recently ended with less than 48 hours including travel time between Vandy and Florida. It is totally amazing that they somehow managed to score more points than Florida in the 2nd half. That was all on just toughness and grit. It is also amazing those same people don't understand basic basketball fundamentals when you lack a post presence. Folks, in case you don't know, the rim is 10 feet from the floor.

I agree with everything you say except for the CBJ comparison because the only common trait so far is they both inherited a depleted roster.

I would be more than happy to give CDT 3-4 years if he could demonstrate the ability to attract top talent like CBJ has done. Right now CDT has had 1 coveted recruit for about 48 hours then he went elsewhere. Coaching big time D1 athletics is a highly paid cut throat business and its not unreasonable for the fans to expect to see a foundation of success being laid for the program in the first 12 months. If CDT can't blow our socks off on the recruiting front in the next 3 months, it may be time to part ways if UT finds an out via this NCAA investigation business. UT doesn't owe CDT 3 years if he doesn't show concrete progress with the program.

Hart would be feeling the heat right now concerning CBJ if it weren't for the last 2 recruiting classes which have the fan base feeling optimistic for the future. I'll eat my words if proven wrong, but I don't see any way CDT can piece together a roster of mid level recruits and juco's and be consistently in the top 1/3rd of the SEC. He has to be able to recruit better players and he's never done that at any other of his coaching positions nor has he done it here to date. Ultimately, that's why the fan base lost confidence in CCM and he had 2 5* recruits mixed in with the rest. Maybe CBP spoiled us, but the expectation bar is pretty high when your getting $2 million plus a year.

Whatever you may think of his coaching, Zo just wasn't a very good program builder. Counting signees, he inherited a team with 8 top 100 prospects and left a team with 1. Plus a good many of the players he did sign weren't widely considered to be SEC level prospects. Hart handled the situation correctly, IMO.

Basketball recruiting is totally different than football. It is at least a 2 year process, and I said this with Martin, too. The 2016 class is important for Tyndall. He already has a verbal from a 4 star PF. I think he can recruit, but he needs to resolve the NCAA issue. So, it's more than 3 months. We need to see where we are in November, which is the early period for 2016.

I'm sure your point has some merit, but its easy to provide examples to the contrary - just look at the last 2 UT coaches. CBP's first recruiting class had Duke Crews, Wayne Chism and Ramar Smith and CCM's had Jarnell Stokes. At this time its hard to imagine CDT getting anywhere close to this level in the upcoming class especially as he's only got 3 openings, 4 if somebody moves on and he's filled 2 of those with projects already?

The - could go to the NBA right now high school players - are probably not coming to UT. Their probably headed to KY, UConn, Duke, etc. You know the picture. I have watched this team on TV and they are a very dim shadow of last years' team. We need to give Tindell a chance. He came in very late and he appears to be doing the best with what he has. I agree with the point that a basketball team can be turned around quicker than a football team.
A couple of good recruiting years in BB can turn a team around quickly and they do not have to be 5 star players.
Coaches want to find players that fit their system and that takes a couple of year. Let's see how T does in recruiting this year. It should give us a more clear picture of what he can do. By the end of year 3, if no improvements, then it's time for him to leave.

Keckjm, I'm not going any where. Jabari is doing good. He has a little tenderness but has been released. He's looking forward to returning to BB COURT at TBA next season.

Haha think you took that the wrong way. I meant while you were still online at the time I posted that. I know you aren't going anywhere

This would have been a different team had Jabari not been injured. I say we would have at least 3-4 more wins had he played. Best big we have.

Keck you know I have to keep my guard up in here. Lol. I'm here for the long haul. Go Vols!:clapping:

This team has not quit and never will! They are doing the best that they can under the circumstances facing them. The Coach, unlike the former coach, will never quit. There are a boat load of negative, so called, Vol fans who quit at the drop of a hat.

Some talk about CDT's pool of possible recruits not being SEC worthy. I ask those who say this, do any of you have a crystal ball? Seems like Chris Lofton would have been shunned by these same critics the year he was a Senior in hs and Jujuan Smith had to transfer from ETSU in order to play for UT. I'm sure that most of these crazies were thinking the same negative thoughts about them until they had to eat their words.

Teams have figured out the zone and Josh/Armani have tired legs on offense. It's pretty simple.

I cant even count the number of post that have stated "we are out of gas" "we are tired" "the tank is empty". To that i say What a steaming load of crap excuses These a late teens/early twenty year olds. They are basketball players. This is what they do in their life since most of them were in elementary school. They play basketball even during the off season they play basketball, pick up games, off season workouts. Most of these men have been playing this sport so long it is their life. Lets be honest, you play BB at Div 1 school because you cant finish a season or you run outta gas. There is a place for those players. Its called NAIA

So lets be totally honest. There is something more going on here. Is it scheme? Is it work ethic? Is it depth? If it is the latter, then get on the recruiting trail CDT and get the best BB athletes there is. Dont make excuses they wont come here. Butch Jones doesnt seem to have a problem getting quality prospects to come to UT.

And if these players have quit on the season. Let them go. It is as toxic as anything a team can have. There is one thing nobody can coach and it heart.

Flame away!!!!

Have you played a full season of college basketball? It is a grind and will wear you out no matter what the level.

Even NBA players have to take games off and that's their full time job.
