But...Wolf and Downs both missed alot of time due to injuries. If Jones has a TE like he had at Cincy, he will use him a lot in the passing game. Wolf is probably the closest we have to that

I honestly think we use TE very limited in the passing plays. We use them primarily as blockers. There might be certain passing plays for them, but if that play is called the TE better catch it.

Also, it could be that our TE's are just not getting the extra amount of practice/teaching they thought they were.

If you browse through this old transcript, Butch praises his TE coach who was actually Dave Johnson at that time.

I believe our current TE coach, is also special teams. I don't know how practice is done, but there are SO many more people involved with special teams. Plus, you would have to agree that Kickers is a priority over TE's. So it's possible during practice, they move the TE's to the OL squad. For a TE who doesn't want to block, that would be discouraging IMO.

Between Wolf, Ellis and Downs last year there were 30 catches and 2 TD. (Ellis had a TD on fake FG). 30 catches equals less than 2 throws to the TE per game last year. So with all this talk about the TE position, will new OC use TE more or less this year? Seems like a lot of discussion on a little used position when it comes to receiving. Blocking TE might be another story.

30/13=2.3 CATCHES per game. That's > not < 2. You're also looking at catches, not targets. A good TE will increase catches with the same number of targets as well as increase overall targets. Jason Witten averaged about 3.5 catches per game last year for an average of 11 yards per catch. That doesn't sound significant but I doubt Dallas would call it a little used position. I think it's very important we have someone solid in that position in Butches system.

TE's had what 37 catches last year? We had two true Freshman and and a walk on playing. I would say thats pretty good considering. The TE's had to stay in and block more because our OL was terrible.

Oh chill out VN. People are allowed to ask about a rumor they heard. Especially one that comes from a rather historically trustworthy source. I'm a Vol fan and I love Jakob being on our team. I'm not posting something just to start some nonsense. If any single one of you hear from someone you trust that a player is hurt, leaving the team, or anything else, you want to know if it's true or not. And heaven forbid you ask the most popular Vols fan forum if they've heard anything about it in the hopes it's not true. The rumor was not started by the op but another who brings some legit info. You may not like the question but that is irrelevant when deciding whether it is true or not
