Has another QB ever really had a TRUE chance to play?

Good post. It’s obvious BM and HB had better HS careers. It looks like JG was even a game manager in HS. He had family connections to Butch if I remember correctly so if not for that he likely would not have been offered by UT. Butch is still doing double damage to UT, Financially and on the field.

Yeah and unfortunately Pruitt is hell-bent on experience.

Another clueless quote. This was his list PRE Elite 11 which also includes WVU and UCF. POST Elite 11 includes what you won’t see. He had another 10+ offers from the likes of UGA, UF, Penn St, Miami, Notre Dame, UCLA and several others I can’t remember off the top of my head. He CHOSE for those offers to remain confidential because he’d already committed to UT. When he put out the tweet that he was “shutting down” his recruitment? He did that because UGA was blowing him up. View attachment 316117

So instead of being proud about his offer's from those high profile schools, Maurer thinks that should be hidden info because he committed to TN? With absolutely zero evidence to show you are telling the truth? How convenient.

I know these are just HS stats, but still. I don't understand how Pruitt can look at those and not see how they have more upside if he'd just put more time into their development. It pisses me off actually.

Pruitt is clearly not married to JG as he probably would have been done for had Maurer not gotten hurt. Unfortunately I think our backups have not been developed as they should have been or negatively impacted by offseason issues
Agreed.
I think they were willing to go with Maurer last year and let him work through it. He just couldn't stay on the field.

I see your attempt to discredit me but You obviously don’t know him and that’s ok. You don’t have to believe a single word I say and it won’t bother me a bit. However the fact still remains that if you believe the offers just stopped after his performance at The Opening, you just WANT to believe he’s not that good because a defensive coordinator told you so.

As for him.... this is how he sees it. Once he’s committed to something he has tunnel vision. To him, making those offers public knowledge is the same as having a GF while entertaining other possibilities. Why do you think he never left his HS? Why do you think he hasn’t left HERE? He has and had every reason to but hasn’t. The only way to describe it is ACTUAL commitment.

People like you, Pulaski and k town better HOPE that Pruitt is getting this right. Because right now it isn’t looking good.

Every week that goes by Pruitt is getting more and more exposed. I was telling everyone that qbs were not being developed among other things a year and a half ago and I got hammered for it. As much as it sucks losing I gotta be honest and say I tried to warn everyone this was coming.

I am horrified Maurer is a bust, but can be saved, maybe. Guarantano is a bust. Urban Meyer pursued him hard.
These guys were top recruits. Near Blue Chips. And now they are not serviceable.
Guarantano should have been salvageable. Even Canales was/is a good coach. JG has had good coaching, Or should have. My point is, I now have no clue if he has been coached well or not. His arm talent is real. His foot talent exists, but his head talent is near zero. Now it feels like Maurer is not headed toward meeting his potential.
On paper, we have a lot of QB talent. Our QB room looks like a shell company created for a con artist's big scam. Weinke has to go and Osovet and Chip Long get their opportunity to step up.

I really do think Pruitt is a good coach, but he is running out of time to get it done here.
I don't believe in writing off games, much less seasons.

No I dont know him. And I wish him nothing but the best. If he wins the starting QB job, I am cool with that. But just seems real strange that a guy would just specifically keep his offers hidden because of a committment. I dont judge Maurer by what Pruitt says. He is judged by his stats. They arent good. Is he more talented than JG? Possibly. He definitely deserves a shot.

I figured as much as soon as Pruitt said they were rolling with JG. I was like, what? So you didn't even have a QB competition before rolling into fall camp?

Idk if you can call Maurer a “bust”. He was a 3* and therefore didn’t come with high expectations. And it can also be argued that he out performed his rank when he got his opportunity last season. JG? I think “bust” is fair. However he didn’t EARN that 4* rank in HS to begin with if were being honest.

It sucks for JG..... you know he wants to win and play well..... he’s got the physical tools.... the toughness..... but he just can’t seem to put it all together on a SEC level.

Last year after the awful play of Guarantano at Alabama I think we all thought for sure that we would not see him again. Yet I can’t remember a game where he has not played? Even when they start another guy he always gets to come in. I know Pruitt keeps saying he is the best chance to win. But when you keep losing like this you have to pull the plug and give someone else a TRUE chance at playing. He yanks them after one or two bad plays. Yet Guarantano just keeps getting endless chances. I just feel like he never gives anyone else a real chance to play and get the job and the rest of the QB’s know that. I also honestly wonder if the QB competition has ever been truly open or if everyone knew that he would always go with Guarantano. Anyone else feel this way?
This is what I’ve been saying the whole time. For example, Shrout has not looked good when he’s came in but at least give him a chance to settle down and get into a rhythm. I hate people comparing 3+ years of JG to Shrout coming in the occasional set of downs and only being allowed to pass on 3rd & long. IMO any of the young guys would surpass JG if they were just given some legitimate in game experience.

It would be “fair” to judge him on “stats” if he’d played the full season. But you can’t discredit the garbage time that he was thrown to the wolves vs UF. Do you realize he was only a 25% passer because of UT Chatt (0-2) and UF (4-11) before he ever completed his first pass? That means after UF, when they started putting time into him he became a well over 50% passer to reach 46% within 75 attempts. BM is one qb you can’t judge on stats at this point. You can only judge him fairly on what you SEEN once the time was invested in him.
