Who has more than four wins?

I'd rather have Martin's season right now than anyone else's. I understand that winning doesn't mean much in NASCAR, but I'm still fond of it.

No agree with you, Martin is having a great season. He is running just as good as anyone and better than most. Johnson was dominant at Chicagoland last Saturday but it slipped away at the end. If he had won than he and Martin would both have three wins right now. That just shows how fast things can change in this sport but with things being that close I wouldn't say Martin is outrunning the 24 and 48. I guess I think of "outrunning" as one guy dominating another. If that is what you meant than I disagree, if you simply mean he is a little better than I understand what you're saying.

I love Martin doing this well, I hope he wins a lot more races this year.

Also, I was wrong about the chase, I didn't realize they dropped the point intervals between each spot. I thought they still had a 5 point gap between each spot then added the bonus points for wins.

Hey, if it makes it easier for MM to get a championship, I'm all for it.

Well, I didn't necessarily mean 'dominating' them, just having what I consider a better season up to this point.

And not to nitpick, but Martin was the one who led 195 of the 267 laps in Chicago. He sort of needed the seas to part ahead of him to actually end up winning, much like he did in Michigan when both Johnson and Biffle ran out of gas on the last lap, but he was the dominant guy for most of the night.

I'm having a bad run of posts here. Can we delete these threads and start over? :)

Mark's been inconsistent all year. We saw last year the gear that Jimmie put it in once the chase came around. There's no way you can think that Mark has a better shot.

Yeah, nothing says inconsistency like leading the series in wins with the few poor finishes you've had coming as a result of a blown engine or getting caught up in an accident. Inconsistency to me is running great one week, then following that up by running around in 23rd the whole day in the next race. Martin has been up front in every single race this year.

At no point did I say one guy had a better shot at the championship than someone else. I simply said the guy with the most wins is having the best year so far.

By your method Matt Kenseth should have never been allowed a title, and Kyle Busch should be given last years trophy.

I'm not sure what method you're referring to that awards titles halfway through the season, nor am I positive why Kyle Busch should have been the 2008 champion.

Because winning must be everything to you.
It's a novel concept, I know, rewarding the guy who does the one thing everyone is trying to do the most times.

Even if "winning was everything" as you say, how exactly does that mean Busch should have been last year's champion?

I agree that winning needs to be rewarded more. To what extent I don't know. 25 or 50 bonus points for a win? I think the 10 bonus points for a win rolled over into the chase sucks. The points leader going into the chase should be the points leader at the beginning of the chase in my opinion.(I know it doesn't matter what I think). The bonus points for winning a race should be set high enough to reward tha car for going for the win. Mark Martin has 4 wins. If he makes the chase he would only have a 40 point lead over 12th. Not very rewarding in my opinion. But if he was given 25 bonus points per win in the regular season he would have 100 points more of a cushion over the 13th place car making it easier for him to make the chase.

If they really want to reward winning, they'll do what Formula 1 flirted with doing before this season and crown the driver who wins the most races as the champ.

We all know that ain't gonna happen in NASCAR, because they'd rather let guys 4 and 500 points out of first close to within 40 or 50 points with 10 races to go and allow them to get hot for what amounts to less than a third of the season and win the championship.

Brian France is going to measure the heart of the driver to determine the champion. Kyle Busch had the most desire to win in 2008.
