Thread might suck, but he is probably right. Gruden ain't comin'---thank goodness. Charlie Strong would not fare any better in the SEC. Don't need a mid majors guy. The good ones know the manic fans would have moving vans in their front yards in 3 years, including Gruden. It would cost up to $9M to buy out staff.

Dooley is still the best option right now. I don't believe that because I particularly like Dooley. I just believe retaining him will get us to winning faster than another big turnover with a coach who is willing to come here and face the music of the frantic fans.

The problems, instead of being across the board, are more specific now and can be fixed. The pass defense with LBs and DBs can be fixed over the off season. The OL has been very good and RBs can be further upgraded with a big RB. Kicking needs improvement. WRs and QB are good and it appears now that most will return next year.

So, unless there is an absolute home run coaching hire (not Gruden), our best bet is with Dooley for next year. JMO

This, this, this! Everyone argues what Dooley inherited should mean he gets a break. Why? This is year three and he has done a fine job of recruiting. There is no doubt our team is far more talented than when he got here. But he's had these kids a few years now and they are not playing up to their talent level. What good does it do us to get talent if we can't develop it? We can't even put it together for one big game. What's Dooley's record against ranked teams now?

I supported Dooley until the Miss St game. I'm sorry, but put side by side, there is no way there roster is more talented than ours. The key was the coaching. That game made me see that. Our coaches are not at the same level as other SEC coaches. And I'm not calling all of them out, but certain ones do not have the credentials for their current positions, and Dooley is one.

And before someone goes off on Sal and the entire D, let me say IMO the problem on D is the secondary. I think the line play is okay. I think the LBs are okay until they have to drop into coverage on someone they couldn't possibly keep up with. The real weakness is the DBs. Don't we have two DB coaches? WTH are they doing?

Wait...didn't Dooley himself say that we are about go into the Second Season? That would mean this season is over!!

What pisses me off is that Hart is gonna dick around and f this up. Whether it's Gruden or not, he needs to make a quality hire. He's gonna let other vacancies come open and get filled and we'll be stuck with the leftovers no one else wants, at which point it'll be just the same as keeping Dooley. And Dooley is not the answer. He cannot get these guys over the hump. So what if we end up with a 7 win season? Our only conference wins would be against Mizzou, Vandy, and Kentucky. Is that really something to be proud of? IMO it's something to be expected. The rest of our wins are against lower tier teams. The only half way decent team we've beat is NC State, and I'm not sure how much of an accomplishment that even was. The state of UT football right now is piss poor and sad, and even sadder is some fans are okay with that. We need to get back on track and to do that we need a good coach. Dooley needs to go.

Is there a single solitary poster here who, regardless of how the rest of the season goes, will be excited about a 2013 season with Derek Dooley as coach?

Not disagreeing about the secondary being laughable, but my complaint is that they look confused on every third down. This was game 8. There is no excuse for consistently not understanding the defenses called.

Surprisingly yes. I am not one of them, but there is a solid group that believes progress is being made.

We won't win out. We can't win out. We are the worst team in the SEC besides KY. Dooley has never won 5 in a row while at UT and never will. I personally think Mizzou and Vandy will beat us, heck I'm even a little worried about Troy. Bank on a Vandy or Mizzou loss for coach Doofey though.

I agree well somewhat.. I think we could win out..(meaning we have to talent to do so) I think its unlikely though. Mizzou has a good offense not sure our offense can keep up. Honestly even Troy make me a little nervous right now. KY beat us last year without a QB so who knows what will happen with that game.
