Hart striking Out?

The kind of hearsay, that is, that gets published in the TFP. I recall exactly how smarta$$ Hart sounded when he described his "courtesy call" to JG. His ego will not be outdone.

By a writer who had well respected sources on the situation and was tighter than a tick's hind-end with people very close to said Super Bowl winning coach

Just the one where he ended up hiring the 4th or 5th option in Butch Jones. (I like Butch, but he wasn't number one on the list). Some would argue he had every chance in the world to hire a Super Bowl winning coach and didn't want him. Of course, that's just hearsay.

Then what is a botched search to you? Not getting someone at the top of your board or not getting the right fit for the program? Probably better to at least wait till we hire someone to call this a failed search. JMO

Pretty easy to see the direction it's going without waiting for the presser.

Umm, if the person at the top of your board is not a right fit, then the search is a fail before it ever starts.

I'm sure White turned us down. The issue is what we are offering. What a joke. $1.3 million coming from Cal and we are pinching pennies on what is a bargain hire in the first place.

In my 40 year career I have hired hundreds of people. I have never been charged with making a $2,000,000. hire. I have agonized for days over $75,000 hires! I have had $50,000 hires take two weeks to make their mind up. To expect Hart to make this decision to the satisfaction of our fan base and in the time frame some of you expect may be a little unreasonable!

This forum is worse than a new reporter trying to get his first scoop. The very reason Dave Hart made this a one man search was to keep the details private. I guess he figured that was the only way he could do it. Nobody knows anything except him. He probably is letting all these media concocted rejections of UT run their course just to say in the end none of them are true. Do you really think he is leaking the fine details of contracts and why a coach rejected them? If you do, there is a nice bridge in Brooklyn for sale dirt cheap!

By the way, 10 or more good coaching years left!!!

after the notorious petition calling for CCM's head, and all the idiotic bull***8 he had to put up with, I'd say the people we want would say good job, but no future.

Internet message boards are not real life. CCM didn't have to put up with alot of idiotic BS. When your making well over a million dollars a year it's your responsibility to cater to your fan base and rally support. CCM had no interest in making the fans feel like they were part of the program. In his previous three years I never once saw him as emotional and fiery as he was during the NCAA tournament. He did this because he knew other schools would be watching. If CCM would have always put that much effort into his job most Tennessee fans would have been fine with him.

no,he agreed he wanted the job...he disagreed with the buyout and the terms...I can't help you anymore if you can't see there is a difference

In the end, he's not the coach because he decided not to accept our offer. That's the definition of "turning down". The original post I responded to said "I'm sorry, no way white turned down double his salary to stay at LA tech. No way."

If you want to celebrate some silly semantics, go ahead, but he turned down our offer.

The football search was a botched search. The fact that we were publicly turned down by multiple coaches (not including Jon Gruden) was embarrassing. When conducting a coaching search it is much better to keep you cards hidden in order to not embarrass yourself and to not give any other potential candidates leverage if your top choice does not work out. If Butch Jones turns out to be successful, it will not be because he was Dave Hart's top choice but because he lucked into him. This search is following a similar pattern and therefore does not give me confidence that Dave Hart will make a good hire.

Shouldn't the fact that even after all this Byrd's name is STILL not even being mentioned by anyone other than this place tell you something?

To expect the AD of the University of Tennessee to be just like you is little unreasonable.

For the record its easy for the other party to leak it after they decline the job or whatever. It looks good to your current team, fans, boosters, etc... when you can say a major conference school wanted me but no thanks!

So the search for Butch Jones was a failure? Maybe it's just me, but a coaching search is a failure one of two ways:

The Dooley search where no one will say yes, or having to overpay for someone that isn't a good fit.

I just don't think you can say a search is a failure just by the fact you don't get the top guys on the list. I honestly see Tyndall as almost a basketball version of Butch, great personality. If you could get him and he wins then no way this search is botched.
