Hart has failed (again)

We get our a$$ kicked next year and deservedly so for being stupid.

Yes, we should have fired Martin the day before his team plays in the NCAAT to bring back a former coach who threatened to bring NCAA sanctions upon the program.

That is logic.

Bruce Pearl fleeced the fans re: Kiffin, Dooley, and Cuonzo? News to me.

Stick to the relevant facts. I agree he delivered on his sales pitch on the court. I was referencing his sales pitch off the court to the thousands who actually believed he was sincere in what he said.

Here are some relevant facts.

Kiffin called this a destination job then left after one season.

Dooley pretended to be a competent coach then spent his last year and a half begging pout of the job to the point of not even bothering to recruit for a year.

Martin has preached toughness and playing smart since he took the job but his team folds any time they get in against someone with comparable talent.

Pearl backed up his claims on the court. He didn't handle a situation well off of it and got canned.

Tough to remain faithful to the program that canned him a few days before tourney game after supposedly backing him for months.

To say Pearl fleeced this program or fan base on anything is beyond absurd. That's another fact.

I don't get the blame on Hart he got us Butch Jones (I don't believe Gruden was ever a realistic option his name pops up for every major opening across the country) and I think sooner rather than later he will get us a very good basketball coach.

I think Hart is an exceptial AD who was put in a bad spot when hired by the administration particularly Cheek. Somehow Hart managed to stop the funneling of money from the AD into the Academic departments (something no other school does as for as I know) and it also appears he has got them to back off some the outrageous academic (Vandy esq.) requirements or at least no recruit has failed to be admitted we will see how things work out when more of our top 5 class gets here in July.

If Dave Hart wasn't a better than average AD he wouldn't have had jobs at Florida State and Alabama or Tennessee. He was the heir apparent to Mal Moore at Alabama (AD in waiting if you will) but Moore just wasn't going to give up control so Hart bolted to Tennessee when a job of equal caliber opened!

Did I miss something? Was there some kind of back office conversation between Hart and Pearl to bring him back?

I'd think if there was no conversation and if Pearl wanted the job, he'd waited till the season was over to see what will happen with Martin.

IMO I'm not sure how this is Hart's fault, Auburn fired their guy and jumped on the Pearl train before someone else did.

Yeah, fire your coach right before your team plays its first game in the tournament. That wouldn't have generated 10 tons of negative press, I'm sure. Jesus Christ you are dense.

I've seen this a couple of times now.

Hart allowed Bruce to go to a rival.

I didn't know pearl needed hart's permission

The reason Bruce is at Auburn and not Tennessee is Bruce.

Move on.

We will until he comes in here and beats the Vols like a drum with a no name Auburn team next season!

Then we will have the right to be pissed again that UT ever fired him.

Not going to happen. Pretty sure he's not walking into one of the greatest shooters to ever play college basketball this time.

There is a precedent for that with this athletic department.

Here are some relevant facts.

I was with you all the way to this point. That's where it all became irrelevant again because you seem to think comparing how Kiffin, Dooley, and Martin have conducted themselves publicly is relevant in any way, shape, or form as it relates to the puff job Pearl did.

My point is that all the fans who really believed he was sooooo in love with Tennessee are about to look like the flattered fool when he goes down to Auburn and recites the same tired BS to their fanbase.

Sooo many people here are convinced there was no contact between Bruce and Hart. I am not sure how anyone would know. Of course this also makes it entirely possible that Bruce contacted the AD and said "Auburn has offered, but I would like to come back to UT at a discount." Hart said no and Bruce is a Tiger. :whistling:

If Hart planned on bringing back Cuonzo next year regardless, he was irresponsible for not publicly supporting his coach and squashing Bruce rumors. Just like he should've squashed the Grumors. Silence can divide a fanbase and it certainly has.

you think the AD is contacting coaches while another is still employed?

If that's the case, he shouldn't be hard to pry away this time next year when Tennessee goes 3-30.

Amirite Bruce fans???

Hart stayed silent because he was waiting to find out if UT was going to make the tournament. Had we not, then there would've been a change (and no, he wouldn't have considered Pearl).

Let's say you are right, I'm not, but just for fun let's say you are right.

What difference does it make?

Butch bailed Hart out with killing it on and off the field. However, I'm afraid Hart will always be the guy who talks the talk but is always afraid to pull the trigger. He balked when Strong wanted more and he balked at not making a smart financial move with Bruce. Just my opinion.

I don't think it's so much as Hart allowed Pearl to go to a rival. The way I see it is this, the fact that Hart said in an interview that he expects us to be in the NCAA Tourney and to do well signals one of two things.

Either A.) He has little to no confidence in Martin, or B.) Martin thinks he's safe for another year even without an NCAAT birth, and inconsistent play.

I don't think an AD comes out and says something like that if he truly believes his coach is the right man for the job, so in that sense maybe he should've reached out to Pearl and see how interested he might've been to come back.

Maybe he made that call maybe he didn't, but I could see how some fans feel like Hart is just reacting and not being proactive.

Now we don't know what's going on behind the scenes, but I still see a red flag here with Hart's interview.
