If there’s anything remotely positive from last week, recruits saw a vibrant atmosphere and also saw they’ve got a chance to come in and play early...good selling point, for sure, but this is about the last season Pruitt can sell the rebuilding card early in his tenure.

I don't know if Bailey starts Day 1, but one thing is for sure; if JG keeps playing like this, we'll have a real QB competition for 2020. It will be very interesting.

Kasim Hill. Dual threat type QB with experience, but inaccurate passer at Maryland.

JT Shrout. Gunslinger with probably the strongest arm on the team, but also had accuracy issues in high school. Can he get those issues fixed and become the NFL-type QB that a lot of scouts have been drooling over? We'll see.

Brian Maurer. Played for a terrible team in high school (went 2-8 last season), but led a prolific offense, and was almost a 1-man show. Good arm, good scrambler. Very underrated by the recruiting services.

Harrison Bailey. Strong arm, accurate QB. Will be the youngest, but could be the best of the bunch.

The crazy thing is that all 4 (plus JG) have a shot at starting next year. If Bailey were not a true Freshman, I'd say he would be the odds-on favorite; and he might still be. But I think with a year of development under his belt, Maurer will be much better; sort of like how Season 2 Josh Dobbs was much better than Season 1 Josh Dobbs. And while everyone will count out JG, I wouldn't say it's a done-deal, but he's going to have to start playing much better than he did versus BYU, or there's no real argument for keeping him as starter.

If I were a betting man, I do think Bailey is the favorite in 2020, but only slightly so.

JG will probably grad transfer somewhere and light it up.

It will be a Christmas miracle if, after the debacle we are facing this season, he ever signs with us. Blue chip player don’t sign with teams that can’t win a conference game and are likely to fire the HC in the next year or two.

He’s a difference maker for sure....we need him. But this season will have to hold some MAJOR surprises for that to happen I’m afraid.

Here is my question for all these people clamoring right now.

What happens if we win 3-4 games only this season yet the current commits stay locked into Tennessee? Bailey has somewhat made it clear that he is staying committed. He also recognizes that Chaney is the real deal given his track record.

I think it is more likely to happen than not with Bailey staying committed regardless of the win/loss column.

If people think firing Pruitt will mean we upgrade the staff and keep kids like Bailey as it is a sure thing, I'm not sure how they are coming to that conclusion.

We all better hope JG goes pro and ends up on some practice squad if he’s lucky. If he can’t read college defenses he’s totally screwed in the NFL...
