Harrison Bailey--is he right for Heupel's system

I’m just glad there’s a healthy competition. We have at least 3 QBs that seem to have a legitimate shot.

But consider this, if they can all be accurate and make good decisions then Joe Milton is the one that separates himself. He just has physical gifts that none of the others can compare with
Must have gotten those gifts from Santa this past Christmas because he didn't have them prior during the fall of '20.

He didn't have them after fall 2020 either or he knew he couldnt beat the other freshmen out @ Michigan. By the way Milton didn't lose the job at UM because he got hurt. He lost it because the other freshman was better. He was replaced in the rutgers game. The other led a comeback and won in overtime. That kid got hurt.... Said kid came back healthy after the season plus the incoming freshman that Harbaugh hand picked. Supposed to have the tools. Milton transferred here. Probably more to it, but that is the story from si.

Harrison will fit well into offensive minded CJH‘s scheme
That's where the flexibility comes into play. You gotta find common ground so to meet in the middle so CJH needs to format the scheme to accommodate HB's or Milton's strengths. Once again, to a reasonable degree.

No, like I said revisit it. Helton was there for the transition. No mention of redshirt, there for 4-5 games until Jerry got hurt…Peyton‘s words not mine.
You did read where I said I was wrong about the redshirt.......or are you just glossing over that?
BTW.....you said two horse race between PM and BS. If that was the case, one of them would have started game one.
If Cutt was grooming them to start later in the year, I’ll buy that. But to say it was only two vying for the job in the pre-season (like it is today) is wrong

Ok so lets look at the side by side comparisons for seasons. Both offenses may have truly been nothing short of terrible

Didn’t gloss. But like I said two man race. Jerry’s to take but wasn’t a given and we will never know how it would have played out had he not been injured. But my point is that Helton was there for transition only. I never BS was in the race, just there for intrigue.

After looking at stats and experience I may agree Hooker is probably the front-runner. He did run a lot at VT. His completion % is low, but if anyone can fix that it just might be Heupel

I was able to watch Michigan's "highlights" from last year. They were way out of synch and about as bad or worse than UT. Milton displayed a good arm for sure but these were highlights and don't give the overall truth because they negate the bad plays and I'm not gonna watch 6-7 Michigan games just because I'm curious. McNamara was out-playing Milton was the bottom-line and that's what SI is saying.

They wanted options. If you wait until there’s a dire need, it’s too late. This is resultant of Heupel’s vast experience in big boy football. UGA at one point, had Eason and Fromm on the roster and Fields on the way. A calendar year later they’re begging Jamie Newman to come in and start in front of true freshmen…he doesn’t even make it to the first game when JT Daniels falls out of the sky. Who starts for that loaded roster til midseason? Former walk-on Stinson Bennett. To paraphrase noted poet laureate Ferris Bueller, “life comes at you pretty fast”.
All true but teams don’t bring in 4th and 5th QB as a preemptive measure against transfers. Remember when hurts took the Alabama job? They had 3 QBs transfer and signed a second QB (Mac Jones) with Tua to backfill. Easier to recruit to a wide open depth chart than coming into a crowd…unless it’s for a legitimate chance to start.

Different timeframe. You couldn’t redshirt if you played a snap and Blake Barnett won the job in fall camp after redshirting his true freshman season. All that to lose out to a true freshman QB after the first game of the season. Who did Saban “have confidence” in that Spring amongst a string of 5 star options? And that was a bunch that Saban had recruited fully after his ? season? I don’t see how that equates to QB savvy Heupel arriving in January and having 3 total options for Spring. Never disputed that Milton saw an opportunity and that was a draw. That’s about the end of the science.

It will be interesting to see how it unfolds. Last year matters not all all, and the spring matters only a little. But these guys watch film for a living and know what they need for this offense. I’m highly confident they want to prioritize winning now, which is the opposite of Jones. He brought in 2 freshman QB and was prepared to play Worley for 2 years. The program needs to reassert itself vs the 2nd tier east teams. The ability to run may be Miltons X factor.

It’s an advantage, but he needs to do all of the more important QB duties at least as well as everybody else for it to matter. I like his confidence, outspoken nature and physical tools.

What the heck are you guys talking about? I said physical gifts. It’s not debatable he has the strongest arm and is the biggest and strongest among them.

Here's what we know about Harrison Bailey
1. He's a big kid. (6'5 220lbs)
2. He's a smart kid (football IQ)
3. He has a good, but not great arm (particularly for his size)
4. He's the most accurate of the four QB's
5. He's been groomed and has far more QB coaching than anyone else on the roster.
6. He is the least mobile QB (by far) but still not a complete statue.
7. The tight ends were a non factor last season until he got to play. (This is actually a big deal. )
Here's what we don't know yet about Harrison Bailey
1. What is his ceiling? (Did he peak in high school, or can he dissect a college defense)
2. How good is he without an Arik Gilbert to throw to?

None of that makes a damn if he cant perform better than he did at Michigan. Period regardless of physique or throwoing the ball 70 plus

Ok, but that wasn’t the point. Why can people never agree with a simple point?

Point is, he has something none of them has or can be taught. It’s like speed, can’t teach it. If he learns the system and performs he can’t be beat.

He just sucks 🤣🤣🤣

I feel like on Sept 2, there's going to be a huge flood of "this aged well" posts from those on VN who were right about the QB race, bumping all those who were wrong. I look forward to that, even if I'm on the losing end of it.
I think people are vastly discounting HH’s chances. He was pretty good at Tech, had huge runs, was most consistent in Spring (by all accounts from inside and outside the program), and has a better system and coaching. Don’t sleep!!!

I'm going to find this and give it a "this aged well" if HH doesn't play in the opener. :p:D;)

None of this implies that HB sucks. In fact, it's quite the opposite. I think the kid has a world of talent and just needs the opportunity. I just don't know if it happens this year. He is the youngest QB on the roster.

Have you ever tried to throw a football with a stubbed finger? Milton played the bulk of last season with torn tendons in his throwing thumb. If he has recovered he truly could look like a different qb in terms of accuracy and touch.
Milton is a sub-standard QB. Watch him on Saturday and you will see what I mean.
