No he needs to redshirt. We don't have the talent around him to support him completely yet.
If you are concerned about the OL, the 2020 line will be the best in nearly 20 years. RB depth will be amazing. We are losing most of the WR corps, but Ramel Keyton was his number one target his FR through JR years. We will be young at the WR position so might as well start building chemistry asap.

One of the Brian Maurer fan club members made a post making that exact statement a while back. That same guy also said Maurer made a throw in HS that only 2 current NFL QBs could make so take it fwiw. I'd be surprised if there was an OC throughout all of football that would not want HB at this stage of his development. If he has any negatives about him he sure is good at covering them up.

JG did great at the end of the season. Myself and others were very hard on him. He earned my respect. But, had Maurer not got a concussion. JG probably wouldn't have seen the field as much the rest of the season and Maurer would have played much better down the stretch. If HB is better than Maurer, none of the others will see the field much. HB will be the guy by the 3rd game of the season!!!

So he can play 4 games and still redshirt? Perfect. Put him in for Oklahoma, FL, GA, and Bama. 🤪 Then we can redshirt him and have home 2-3 more years.

I don't agree with this PoV. If he is the best QB on the roster, and wins the job you play him. If he balls out we get him starting for 3 years and then he goes pro. If red shirts and balls out we get him starting 2.

I have seen him play in person and he sure looks the part. Watched him play against some other D1 talent too. Throws with confidence and pace. Didn't hurt that we was throwing to receivers that were his same size in HIGH SCHOOL. Hope he turns out as I expect him to be pretty special at some point. He is a pro style pocket guy for sure and I know Chaney likes that.
Add to the fact that one of his best high school Wr's he has had already plays Wr for us in Remel Keyton

Why not?? He has a good Oline returning, 3 good RB's returning, Palmer, Gibbs, Johnson (who lead the team in catches in 2017),& his #1 target from high school in Keyton. We have had talent at the skill position for yrs the problem has been finding someone to get them the ball. When u have a playmaker at Qb it automatically makes everyone else better.

Pruitt has had 2 years. I don't expect to win the East this year but its time to take the kiddie gloves off and get down to bidness. No more overlooking or getting blown out for whatever reason. I haven't minded some of the excuses because for once they seemed liked legitimate reasons.

With better QB play this past season, just a little better and we're 9-3 and probably have a few more points in all the games. **That's not a knock on Just JG.

What's my point? Lol, whatever Pruitt decides is going to happen obviously, but if Bailey is actually ready, its a no brainer for me.

No excuse not to win 8.
Really no excuse not to be competitive in those other 4 with at least a chance to win any of them.

Its time. Time to put on our big boy britches.

My sincere hope is that Pruitt & Co. bring him along the right way. Don't try making him an instant "savior," rather put some meat on him to better deal with the SEC level pounding QBs endure. Have Chaney refine his already awesome skills until he's as Peytonesque or Bradyitic as possible. Recruit the player weapons in terms of RBs, WRs, and OL personnel so he's surrounded by the talent he needs to be his best. Then unleash him on the SEC and our OOC opponents. Start the process now of building a team around him. Including a defense that makes the scoring stand and deliver.

This isn't a knock on JG, but Pruitt and Co. may not have a choice. JG isn't necessarily someone that is consistent. If we have another slow start to the year because of QB play, I don't know why Pruitt wouldn't pull the trigger on another QB. The good thing for preserving Bailey is Maurer will be a year older and bigger in the program. Same with Shrout.

However, QB's nowadays are able to play earlier and earlier. The benefit Maurer had this year was a stacked receiving group. Won't have that luxury next year.

Fans always trying to steal years with the redshirt. The clock doesn’t START ticking after a redshirt season. The whole original purpose was if a player needed significant development, this allowed them time towards that without losing eligibility. It’s become this ideal where you stash them away and hope they stay longer. Bailey’s as or more advanced a PASSER as anyone on the roster. How fast he grasps the offense and adjusts to the speed of defenses is the unknown. That’s what Spring is for.

Your last 2 sentences is exactly why CJP has been so adamant on play JG. He recognizes defenses and knows our schemes thus he understands where everyone needs to be.

It’s always about the adjustments to the adjustments from opposing DC’s. They’re writing a book and you don’t want them controlling the final chapter. This would be the first season at UT where JG would have a returning OC and QB coach...if all plays out.

Many years ago my small town school had a "great" high school basketball team. When asked by the "Tennessean" what he thought of our point guard, Adolph Rupp who was at the Tn. state tourney said "If I were recruiting him, I would want the whole team. They are the best 5 man team I have seen."
So,,, as to our incoming superman, would we not also want his receivers? As the best passer in the world is really not much better than the guys catching the ball....

Here's the highlights. Honestly Eastside Catholic's secondary was completely outmatched by Marietta's receivers but you've still got to make the throws and he did. There are some plays where he had acres to throw into but then also some where you go "he just fit that in there like it was nothing" - see 4:42 for one of those. The series at 3:55 has a bit of everything too, and a couple at 6:20 show his downfield accuracy. There's a lot to see and it's definitely worth a watch.

Give him mop up duty first and if he does well then ease him into starter.

I’m interested to read those reports when camp starts though.
I just read that it is likely Bryce Young will be the starter at Alabama next year because he is more talented than anyone currently on their roster. Same applies for Harrison Bailey.

Didn't Tua have a brother that was supposed to be better than him who signed with the Tide? Gotta wonder what happened down there.
