Sorry if this didn't need a new thread, but i didn't want to post it in each of their threads. Anyways, I know i will get flamed for this and most will think it does not matter, but each of these three guys is rated a 5.5 or lower on rivals.
I know these comparisons arent always correct, but my friend from high school last year is a 5.5 who signed with Vandy. All i am gonna say is that if they are the same caliber players as the friend i played with last year, don't expect much from them... JMO :peace2:

Hope they are really just hidden gems!

Carson is going to make you eat your words. He hasn't been playing football long, from what I gather.

Each has a purpose with the staff. They could be a surprise or they could just be special teams players. Won't know for a while. Regardless, they are the kinds of guys that are a foundation and at the very least won't embarass the school, lol.

What position did your friend play? How can you compare him to BOTH Carson and Young--polar opposites?!?

Maybe the analyst just missed it on your friend or these guys one. Happens all the time. I trust our coaches evaluation and maybe they just didn't think your friend was good enough. (Not being mean)

Brian Randoph 3* 5.7 Parade All American
Justin Worley 3* 5.6 Gatorade National Player of the Year, Parade All American

Just like the bulls in the 90's, you got have role players. I don't think most would consider luc longly, paxson, or kerr as great individual players, yet very imortant. I know it is different sport, but I think the comparison is same.

lol... Don't know what to tell ya then. I guess the analyst were wrong on him like they were Worley and Randolph and our coaches knew he sucked.

Guess the analyst were wrong on the 3 guys we got and our coaches were right.

Ignorant post, IMO. So you're gonna base all of Rivals rankings off of "some guy you know." If you base it all off one player, then Nick Fairley was 5.6. Anybody ranked that or higher is going to be an NFL player.

Lance Thompson loves Harris. He has the potential to be a great LB. Dooley said he already weighs 235. Our heaviest LB this year was 225.

Devrin is being brought in for special teams. If you don't think our special teams is worth a scholarship, then you didn't watch any UT football this year. He's ranked low because he's not an every down player, but we're not bringing him in to be that.

Carson is a hoss. Hasn't been playing football long and Dooley has reiterated again and again our need for size. 6' 330 helps that.

why do you keep talking about our coaches? i am not claiming that he should have been recruited by UT if these guys were. I'm saying he is rated a 5.5 on rivals, and i strongly question whether he is even a D1 athlete. Therefore, i STRONGLY hope that our 3 guys that are 5.5 or lower are better than my friend.

No you don't. You hope they suck, so your pathetic incessant bashing of them is validated.

I could give three sh t about stars. But rivals and scouts have our class ranked at 10th and 12th that includes the fat that many think we have. This defense is going to be hitting really really hard next year.

i put in the disclaimer. just thought it was interesting. and to OP, no, i don't want them to fail. The only one i have ever said anything about was DY, and i don't want him to fail either. I love how it's impossible to have a negative thought without being forever banished into the clan of ultimate negavols/non vol fans.

Carson is a redshirt project with huge upside as you cannot coach size. Will end up being the prototypical nose tackle when CCS gets through with him. This helps CJW with his schemes. He tore it up in HS but is a relatve noobe to the sport.

Those of us from the Knoxville area know what Young can be. Think Brandon James. A natural returner. A lot of good defenders heading for D-1 ball grabbed handfuls of air trying to tackle him. He will be given every opportunity to win the returner spot this year.

Harris is Lance Thompson's guy. He loves the kid. Bad rating on him - he did not go to a lot of the camps. Knew he wanted to go to UT a long time ago. He is intelligent, big, and a hard hitter - kind of like a "loco"motive. The kid weighs 245 lbs now and will play the Mike. He may redshirt as Propst will understudy Austin Johnson this year.

Steven sheu is a physical freak and will be an all-SEC TE.

lol a physical freak? hes big. not fast, low football IQ, goes down easily on contact, soft as hell. I played with him for 3 years. the kids 6'6 240 and didn't even get to play on the bball team because he was too damn soft.

And I told you analyst might have missed it on both accounts. Clearly they missed it on your friend. That doesn't mean the 3 we got will suck like your friend just because they have the same rating.

Randall Cobb at KY was a 5.5 rating too. Clearly the analyst and Fulmer both missed that one. It happens.

Don't worry about it, if you go against the grain you're gonna get flamed any way it goes.

Its a joke. Lighten up. But I seriously doubt he was close to as bad in high school as you say or he wouldnt have been a 5.5.
