Both Amazon and Dell have the Harmony 880 on sale right now. If anyone needs a universal remote, you can't do any better than this. $130ish online. $250 in stores around here.

I got mine in last night after a year of reading how good it was, and I was thoroughly impressed. I am down to just the 880 instead of 5 other remotes. Programming it over the web is a snap and piece of cake. Wife loves it as well. No more scrambling for the receiver remote to turn up the sound, then finding the cable remote. No more hunting for the TV remote to switch inputs when playing the 360.

The 880 is simply awesome.

My dad has a pair of the 659 models. My mom doesn't like them because she still doesn't understand how they work. :wacko:

The only problem I have with them is how they eat batteries so quickly.

Here's the way I see it. I've spent over $4K on my entertainment center (TV, receiver, speakers, 360, PS3, etc.). I don't see spending $130 to have a single remote control everything a problem. I literally put all 5 of my current remotes in a drawer last night. This thing does it all and it took less than an hour to get everything working properly and how I need it. The wife sat down having never used it and didn't have a problem. She pulled up the guide, skipped around live television, got to our recordings, then switched over and started the 360 with 2 button presses. It's downright impressive.

About the batteries...880 comes with a recharging base and uses a lithium battery.

I saw that on the website. That's an excellent idea, and it looks like it works very well. Logitech has improved the line dramatically in the last year or so. Honestly, at $130 this remote is a steal.

If you could please provide me with an address to your house as well as directions on how to get there and a detailed list of when you will be gone and possible a code to your security alarm if you have one, I would greatly appreciate it.:)

I picked up one of these last week. Still tweaking the settings but so far I like it. Does anyone know how to reorder the main functions for each specific device? For example, my TV has 13 pages of commands. How can I get the ones I use the most to show up first?

Should be able to go into the activity and place them into the custom buttons above. Probably a pain to do so, but if you want them I think this is one way to get them.

I don't have any problem putting them in activity but I wanted to put them under device. Oh well.

I honestly haven't messed around with it long enough to know. The software was a bit of a pain to me when I was getting started. Now, they've updated it again and I'm just not familiar with it.

I know this is old but didn't want to start another thread. I really want a new univ remote for my setup and wonder if there are any more recommendations.

I can get the 880 for about $117 right now so I know the price is right.

I'm happy with my 550. My parents were so impressed they dropped the 659s and got 550s.

The 880 has a nicer screen, but I like the aesthetics of the 550 better. :)

Also, the Harmony for the xbox 360 is pretty much a 550 with the proper xbox buttons.

I don't think you can beat it for $117 right now.

I will warn you though, be patient when you first get it. They take a somewhat different approach to universal remotes that you might be used to. It's not just simply plugging in manuf. codes and then switching between devices. It will take you awhile to get it setup the way you want it. Keep playing with it and noting what you want to do differently when programming it. Putting different buttons you use in certain spots, knowing how you want to control your system, etc. takes a bit of time.

Still, once it's up and running, and you understand it, the thing rocks.

If you have a Sears near by, they have the XBOX Harmony (don't need an xbox) remotes for $36. They've been closed out for awhile, so you might not find one. As mentioned above, it's very similar to the 550. (in computer at 36, price tage may have 59 or something else)

I've gotten a chance to use a URC MX810 that I happen to like a lot better than the Harmony 880... However, the Logitech remotes are by far the easiest to program out there. URC's are a pain in the a** and take a few hours to set up.

I looked at the MX810 you mentioned Milo but just can't justify the cost (since I just bought a nice new HT receiver). Looks like the g/f will be putting the 880 under the tree. Thanks for the add'l input.

I got one a couple years ago and love it, soooo much nice having everything in one remote. Much easier to push 'watch dvd" and have the dvd player power up and the tv/audio receiver switch inputs. Same thing goes for playing PS2 and Xbox.

The only problem I've had was the remote not making a good connection in the charging dock but after a little tweaking everything works fine.

Yeah... I suppose if you also count programming controls and tweaks, then I like Logitechs a little bit better.
