Hey guys, I was just wondering which conference & division you think is the toughest right now, and why. Just trying to escape the summer doldrums.

SEC East: Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, South Carolina, Tennessee, Vanderbilt

SEC West: Alabama, Arkansas, Auburn, LSU, Mississippi State, Ole Miss

Big XII South: Baylor, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Texas, Texas A&M, Texas Tech

Well, for this coming year, I would have to say the Big 12 South. I know we are SEC people and we believe the league in its entirety is usually the best. But that division is stacked with Texas, OU, OK State. And there will probably be another bowl team coming out of there with 8 wins.

Just my 2 cents.

West:

Ole Miss
LSU
Bama

East:

Florida
Georgia

South:

Texas
Oklahoma
Oklahoma State
Texas Tech?

i have to give the edge to the B12 South for now...i dont think TT will be half as good as they were last year. pre-season expectations probably have them doing pretty well though. the east, unfortunatley with UT being down, is in last place even though it has the best team :(

as much as i would love to say the east is #1, i cant. i dont understand why everyone else is so convinced it is. with UT NOT WHAT IT WAS, it leaves UGA and UF as the only legit contenders. USCjr will always be an average team, no more, no less. kentucky and vandy arent title contenders and are about good for one upset a year. this year the west is the better (but not by much) of the the divisions, despite that UF is the best team. the B12 south, however, is just loaded. i would be that texas makes the trip to the NC and OU is a title possibility. OSU is going to knock some heads around and has a good chance of beating the easts UGA in a week 1 game. only baylor and A&M (and they could hit .500) stand out as a weakness in the South.

The Big 12 may be, but i would like to know how good these teams would look if those great offenses matched up against SEC caliber defenses in their own division, may change a few opinions

texas can hang with anyone IMO. i think you will see texas v. UF in the NC game so long as some stupid big ten team doesnt get by undefeated by not playing any tough teams. i think you will see OSU beat UGA. OU can beat most SEC schools. baylor has no chance. A&M might be able to beat MSU or Vandy...maybe. TT can hang with all the mid-lying SEC schools like USCjr and Ark.

I don't see the MAC East anywhere on that list? Just kidding. Personally, I think the Big 12 South is highly overrated. Scoring a lot of points, in my opinion, does not constitute greatness. Football is played on both sides of the ball, and that division was ridiculously awful last season when it came to playing defense. I think the SEC, and the Big Ten (to a lesser degree) bring the most balanced attacks because of the defensive play.

I can attempt to address that.

Big 12 coaches would have little to no fear if given the opportunity to face Vandy, Kentucky, or South Carolina defenses.

yes the lack of defense in the B12 is true. texas is the highest ranked in 2008...at #51. 6 SEC teams are in the top 25 alone. 4 other SEC teams, including UK and Vandy rank ahead of the longhorns. butttt, you cant tell me that UT, Aubruns, Vandy, UK's, and MSU's offenses of 2008 would do much against texas...i mean, there defense is ranked so low because its so hard to stop the high powered offenses of the B12 south.

I think most people voted with their hearts, I know I did, then after reading all the posts I think I should have voted for the SEC west...only cause of the uncertainty of UT. the big 12 south is pretty tough but the Sec is the toughest conference

Good points about Vandy, UK and USC, but I'm primarily looking at the top of that division and they stack up with the top of the SEC. If I had my choice I would take my chances against the Big 12 rather than the SEC. Don't get me wrong, playing OU, OSU, UT and TT is a tough stretch, but I would like to see what they do in a conference with actual physical play.

I just can't get past the fact from last season that you had teams from the Big 12 ranked and even in the top 5 giving up 40 and 50 (and sometimes 60!) points in a game. Just look at how Ohio State shut down Texas for most of the game in the Fiesta Bowl, and how Florida shut down Oklahoma. Didn't TT lost their bowl game, as well?

Baylor is better than Kentucky or Vandy.

Baylor is better than MSU.

yet they arent usually competative with the best of the B12. that would imply that the B12 is soundly better than the SEC as a whole, yes?

Sure you're not a t-sip there PA?

ha. my roommate is has a man crush on Mack Brown and all of Texas so i hear a lot of it. i also consider myself a realist. the question was which is best "right now?" with UT in a rut that leaves only UF and UGA at the top in the East. with Arky and Auburn rebuilding the West is weaker, however, LSU and Bama are dang good and Ole Miss is no joke either. but as a complete, whole division, where anyone could win any given week, id say the B12 south is in the lead right now. i know the argument that anyone can win in the SEC can be made, but its a long shot that Vandy or UK knocks off UF or Bama...

Most years I would say SEC East, but right now the Big XII is far and away the best division right now.

B12 South without a doubt...for now.

I agree with everyone else who voted Big XII South. At least I do for THIS YEAR. All time tells a different story IMO. OU and UTx would run through most of the SECE, with the exception of Florida, who will probably face the OU/UTx winner in the NC game.
