Hands Up Don't Shoot?

I'm not implying that overall the military does more bad than good.

I am implying that we should probably raise standards a bit before we turn an 18-19 year old loose with a gun.

If you score in the 30s on the asvab, you are a complete idiot.

If they can be trained and pass all the requirements, who cares how old they are?

Do you think you could pass the requirements? Do you think you'd be brave enough to knock down doors, walk down the street not knowing if someone had a gun pointed at you?

Yeah, millions deployed, thousands gave their lives and you are going to point out the few who did something bad. The military services have high standards for entry which won't weed out every bad apple, but it is one institution our country can look at with pride.

No they don't. Have a pulse. Be able to read. That's about it.

98 amigo. :)

They pulled me from the testing room and offered 8k after ait if I would go to ranger school.

99 and I volunteered for Ranger School even though I had to get a waiver for my MOS...

ASVAB score does not equal smarts in my experience!

I'm not sure that is feasible. Where else would they get command post controllers if they raised the ASVAB scores?

I'm pretty sure CP has the highest asvab requirement. If not it's top 3 at worst.

Edit: I was wrong about that. Explains how the black racist Nation of Islam guy got that gig.

Haha.

I just remember that day. After testing we were all in a room. About 20 or so guys. Myself and one other guy were pulled out at the same time. He scored one point higher than me. (99- like yourself)

My recruiter and some other guy offered me the gig. Said I could do what ever I wanted with my score. I was proud of myself that day.

The Marine recruiter called me at home at told me I could have any job in the Marines. I said "Can I be Commandant?" His answer? "Well, not the first day." We had a good chuckle then I hung up on him.

The Marines were the only service that didn't hound me mercilessly.

Suppose they knew I was too smart for them :)

Still don't see the revelance to me joining the army, and what transpired that day.

Btw I hated the duck walk.

I have no frigging clue what mine was. Took that in '87 or '88, I did have my choice of MOS.

One of the smartest guys in my school got pulled out of testing in HS because they thought he was cheating. Very funny at the time

Used to be (might still be) if you scored perfect on your promotion testing you'd get investigated.
