From GoVolsXtra:

“We’ve been interviewing folks here over the last week or so and got a few more to go,” he said. “Just based upon the interest level and the conversations that we’re having, I feel good about the process and the direction...."

“We’ve had tremendous interest from a number of great coaches around the country,” Hamilton said. “I feel very good about over the next few weeks bringing someone to the table that everyone can be excited about.”

“We’re trying to win the Southeastern Conference, not the press conference,” Hamilton said. “We hope that we win the press conference too.

“But the main thing is how is this coach going to be judged (in the coming years). He’s going to be judged by wins and losses. So we’ve got to have a guy that’s going to win in the end.

“That’s the thing.”

So what can be taken from this?

One, the process is not over and a decision has yet to be made. Two, there is considerably more interest in the position than is being reported.

That sounds like good news to me.

It concerns me we are trying to 'win the SEC, not the press conference.' That leads me to believe a lower-echelon talent. I really wish we could contend with the Sabans and the Meyers, but it's not looking good. . .

Win the SEC and the rest will/should take care of itself.

You're reading too much into it, man. He's not throwing out hints here, he is just stating that he is going to evaluate all candidates and select the best guy for the job, regardless.

Was Meyer a "big name" when he came in? He turned out pretty good. Fulmer got fired in large part for evaluation of talent (or lack there of). Hamilton has to do the same thing with these coaches, we'll see how good he is.

i don't think that les miles (28-21 at ok st) was a big name when he was hired at LSU, either. or richt at GA.

Well, he's saying the right things. But I would agree with the sentiments that he's setting us up for less than the "big splash," i.e. the Brian Kelly type hire.

You may be right, but IMO he is just reacting to the current landscape of potential candidates not being ideal. I think he's just speaking the truth and I dislike Mike Hamilton just as much as the next guy. I think he's a weasel, but looking at the names that are out there, I don't see how he could say anything different.

sounds to me like Hamilton hired Obama's writers to write his speeches. I mean it just seems hes saying the most vague thing he possible can to please the mob

I like Les Miles. I think he's a great personality. I also think he would have done better for himself to go to Michigan. Les isn't so great of a coach that he will be able to continue the success at LSU. Saban left that program in amazing shape as the dominant for in the SECW. Saban is back and has turned Alabama into that dominant force. LSU will be relegated back to 8-4 and 7-5 seasons.

:eek:lol:
It's best to keep things simple when you can. The political process is about appealing to as many people as possible. Do you think McCain was any less vague? Why give specifics when all you have to do is separate yourself from the incompetency that came before you. Hamilton is acting in a very similar manner. He is trying to separate himself from Fulmer's recent incompetencies.

SOUNDS GOOD TO ME. MAKES ME THINK THAT HE'S LOOKING FOR A GOOD COACH NOT JUST A BIG NAME.

I've been saying for 3 years to the "Who ya gonna git?" crowd that there are many coaches who would want this job, but won't say it publicly. We'll be just fine!

I still think Chucky is it.

Umm.. If I remeber correctly Meyer's was HUGE at Utah before coming to Florida.. In fact the had picked him to replace Ron Zook before Zook was even gone...

It's all smoke and mirrors my friend..

Well you all know that if Hamilton does not get someone that will be a big name that the papers are going to blast him and the staff and say they dont know about the hire. Then next year if we start off great and start winning some games they are going to be all on his jock just like the rest of the reporters. ( Look at the Titans and Chris Johnson)
You know how many people said "what the hell are they doing" after they called his name in the first round, When everyone and their grandmother wanted a wideout! And now look how this has turned out 10-0. Chris Johnson could be the rookie of the year if he finishes strong! You dont ever know how good until it plays itself out.

Reporters are idiots! Hell even ESPN has no clue whats going on, its all speculation. Every coach is interested in this job, and I cant stand when I hear that this position will be tough to fill.

Yeah #1 recruiting budget in the country, one of the largest Stadiums to play in and best facilities around. You have a pretty good Defense returning and except for QB play you have a pretty good offense coming back and a top 10 class coming in next year. Sounds pretty good to me. We really need a leader that can put some discipline into these players and build back up the Swagger for this team.
