Hamilton says contract extension for Fulmer

so, in recap....

florida gets meyer
notre dame gets weis
bama gets saban
and tennessee extends fulmer

sorry guys =(

Sounds rough, but that's what I am worried about. I am looking forward Fulmer's retirement for a while. But the problem is, Fulmer will still be able to manage 9 wins every season, and I have no idea how long we have to stay mediocre.

fire hamilton. to even mention rewarding him shows how clueless the administration is.

I honestly don't think Hamilton is the problem, he did bring in CBP. If he gets enough pressure I can see him going after a big name coach. There are some great coaches out there that would undoubtably enable us to compete with the National powerhouses. Losing 3 or 4 games a year is not the goal here ladies and gentlemen, CPF needs to stop coaching with that mentality.

It's time for CPF to go, move on to the greener pastures where he'll be sure to graze for years to come. Bring in some talented coaches to go with our talented players, they deserve to be coached by the best.

Irresponsible. Hamilton has done a GREAT job since becoming the athletic director. Every sport has had a facility upgrade in some kind, or it is still in the works. He is helping so many sports, men's or women's (which he isn't even in charge of) become better nationally. The new Allen Jones Acquatic Center is going to be the top collegiate swimming facilty in the nation. Recruits are bursting down the doors to come here in many sports.

Also, people in the VASF love this guy, because he was practically one of their own in running the program under Coach Dickey.

Hamilton did the tough thing in firing Buzz, something Dickey would not have done. He also brought in the best coach possible in Bruce Pearl.

He knows how to run an athletic department, and is doing it more professionally and smarter than Coach Dickey or Coach Woodruff ever did. He is a forward thinker, and every aspect of Tennessee athletics has been changed for the better under his tenure.

There is no way for fans to demand to fire this guy. He is doing a great job, and there is no riff between him and any other parts of the university. He works well with Joan Cronan, John Petersen, and the rest of the school.

You may want him to fire Fulmer, but he is too smart to do that. When he fired Buzz, we missed the tournament again. In Fulmer's circumstances, we went from not making a bowl to a NEW YEAR's DAY bowl game. We underachieved in this game, but we got the money the university needs.

Hamilton is a great businessman, and it is unfair for fans to demand his firing, when all of his plans are still unfinished.

i didn't say i wasn't going to root for them. i have stated i will attend no more games except to tailgate and i will give nomore donations whatsoever. i'am embarrassed for our football team. we are a joke, i'll still root for them eventhough we lose to every good team we play, and the fact we are the 7th or 8th best team in the sec. not to mention the fact our AD doesn't have a clue and continues to reward phi for a bad job well done.

You won't make a difference expect to free up more tix for those on the waiting list. UT fball is not a joke or is it that low in the SEC. Please name the 7 teams who finished ahead of us in the SEC standings.

And after the huge changes this AD has made to UT sports in general you say he has no clue? You sure it's him without one?

Mike Hamilton - hires Bruce Pearl, updates Neyland Stadium, builds a basketball practice facility, builds a new aquatic facility, raises more money than any other AD at UT, etc....

Good idea, let's get rid of him. I'm sure he's the reason UT football only won 9 games this year.

Sometimes the hatred blinds people into only seeing the bad stuff.

While I agree that Hamilton is good for UT and has the courage to make change, I disagree that the money earned from the Outback bowl is worth keep CPF around for more years.
With the talent we have on the field we should have been getting Sugar, Orange or even Fiesta bowl money. I'm willing to bet that with another stellar coach at the helm this season, we would have beaten FL and LSU in the very least. Loss to ARK was foreseeable with our run defence but still, we would have competed better IMO.

I attended all home games including the Georgia and South Carolina games. (I am a student, tix are good for me). You keep looking at ONE sport. The fact that there is such a demand for football tickets is great. A proof of success.

Also, my family still donates to get season tickets, and they go to games and don't gripe about the prices.

Yeah I've only been going since the early 80's. We've had the same season tix that my dad got in 1974. You are clearly allowing a personal bias to cloud your judgment. He is over more sports than fball. When was the last sell-out of TBA for a mens game before MH?

The good ol' boys are circling their wagons to protect their own aren't they? At this rate, Fulmer will have a contract through eternity.:disappointed:
I agree. I really had hopes that Hamilton would professionalize the administration of UT athletics. :cray:

i take it you and ut must be rich. good for you. i know many that wasn't as lucky. in most of the other sports at ut they were in pretty good shape before hamilton got there. he did a great job with the bball program, but our football program has went downill. you can say what you want it doesn't change the fact we used to be a football school and the only way to get back to that is to make a change.

I still believe we are a football school, and that Fulmer is doing the right things to get us back to national prominence. However, if you feel we have lost that title, it only means other sports are becoming better, so the school is becoming more well-rounded athletically.

I've been saying this ever since Hamilton has been hired. He is a horrible athletic director. The only good decision he has made is firing Buzz Peterson and hiring Bruce Pearl. He has screwed over UT fans with wanting more donations to keep season tickets and at times it looks like he is only in it for the money.

What is wrong for wanting more donations to upgrade facilities at the University????

This helps us tremendously in recruiting and makes student-athletes happier to be here. He is the most professional athetic director we have ever had, and doing a great job, and the majority of the 105,000 who fill Neyland would disagree with you. They do not feel screwed over if still coming.

It also screwed over alot of season ticket holders in the process. I know people that had had season tickets for UT for 40 plus years and had to give them up because of the demands he wanted for people to keep them. Really, i'm glad that we have upgraded facilities, but I hate what happened to some of the fans in the process.

I hate that this has happened to fans, because I know that they still love UT. But, if it equals national championships, I can live with it.

Bobby, I can appreciate your loyalty to the football staff and I do appreciate your intelligent remarks on the forum. I for one see a different picture with the state of Tennessee football. I have seen a Tennessee team that has been in disarray for several years as far as skill development, discipline, and motivation. I remember back when Tennessee football represented pride, sacrifice, respect, and teamwork. Even up to the time of Al Wilson, teams feared the Vols because of what Tennessee football represented. Nowadays, teams do not have that healthy respect of the Vols. I think there is plenty of blame to go around. I for one can remember as a player, I wanted to represent my team with dignity and I wanted to sacrifice my all for the team. When my coach disciplined me, I wanted to show him the utmost respect and I wanted to make the necessary changes. I am a concerned Vol fan who wants to see the Vols return to their former prominence. But, I haven't seen any sign in the last five or six years of that happening. In fact, I have seen it digressing even more.

Far from rich I can assure you. You make choices w/ your money and I choose the tix over other things. Early on my parents couldn't afford to bring me to the games so I sold cokes as a kid just to get in. I got to see some great games then that cemented my love for the Vols.

I have no problem w/ UT not being known as only a fball school but rather an all-around good sports school.
