Hamilton Meeting w/ Mystery Candidate

The bigger mystery is why the Vols would sign Cutcliffe.

Damnit. This sucks.

Might as well bring back Chavis. Better retain Chaney. Chaney will pry go to the Bears though.

This suprises me. So many of us loved CLK and CMK with their statements of how many kids they could recruit and send to the NFL ...blah blah blah. Here is a guy who has actually done it . Can we list the guys that he has sent ? I personally don't have time. Also , EVERY time he has donned the orange and white his offenses were among the best in the SEC and ranked nationally. Lets not forget how he turned those guys from a loosing season into one of the most efficient offenses in CF ...in one off season. My only questions with cut : who coaches his defense and can they remain competative recruiting .

Not that I am pulling for Cutt ...but you know you will get an excellent offense and a demanding coach . I don't think it fair to dog him like that given his accomplishements.

Please...It is hard to get excited about Coach Cut. One good thing I will be able to find some cheap tickets to the home games this year! GO VOLS

reports are that roper and luke will be coming back and will make a run at bringing chavis back. sorry gotta go time to throw up again
OMG, please no. Does this mean Fulmer may be involved in some capacity? If this is true, surely to God MH has enough sense to have a clause in the contract that Fulmer is to have no involvement whatsoever with the program !

I agree on stoops ...disagree on gruden 200% .

Grunden is a guy that won big with other people's personell and then fizzelled by his own hand. He is a guy that insists on keeping 15 QB's on the roster to no result . Plus he has 0 recruiting sucess to make me think that he could even compete in that field.

Stoops would be a proven commodity with SEC experience.
+1

we would be better off with simon cowall recruiting.............. Cut did that stuff with who at QB? My 11 yr old son could have coached PM those years and he would have performed just as well.

If we can somehow escape this and not get Cutcliffe, I will be thrilled. I have nothing against Cutcliffe ,but he is not head coaching material. He's just a good offensive coordinator and QB's coach.

Also, this is Tennessee. We should be able to do better than Cutcliffe.:banghead2:

AMEN Brother! +1

If Cut is hired, they better hold on the some of the current staff. We'll need CKB, CLT, CWMG, Cregg, etc to keep the recruits we currently have. Does anyone know of any big time recruits Cut snagged at Duke that might follow? I feel like we just hit rock bottom.

If they bring back CDC, it is going to save me a crap load of money. They were losing money and attendance with Fulmer which is part of the reason they made the change; now we're bringing back the same staff? Oh yeah that will excite a fanbase. Hamilton is screwing the program and the whole city of Knoxville if true. Revenue will go down the toilet.

How about Eli? How about Martin? How about Ainge? Could your son have turned around Ainge as drastically as Cutcliffe did?
He may be boring, but he's a good coach.

First time poster...

At this point (conceding Gruden, etc.) my head coaching candidate is
Mike Zimmer, DC for the Bengals. I am probably going to take heat for
this one, but this guy is a coach and it's time for him to be a HC. He
is a coach's son who works hard and he has worked with or under Bill
Parcells, Barry Switzer, Marvin Lewis, etc. Having followed his career I
believe he would make an excellent head choice. I believe he has always
had less talented defenses that he coached up, especially in Dallas in
the early 2000s when they were the #1 Defense in the NFL. His son
coaches at New Orleans. I believe he is a coach that can develop players
and coaches. I think his hire could leave the majority of the staff in
place and bring in others good coaches while maintaining the NFL
pedigree. Reference the Nebraska opportunity below - as a Cowboys fan I
remember this well and he would have been gone if Jerry Jones hadn't
upped his salary to stay.

Coaching career per Wikipedia,
"His first coaching job was as a part-time defensive assistant at the
University of Missouri (1979-80). He then went to Weber State College,
where he was the inside linebackers coach (1981-84), defensive backs
coach (1985-88), and defensive coordinator (1983-88). He then went to
Washington State University (1989-93) as the defensive coordinator and
secondary coach. In 1993, the Cougars finished eighth in the nation in
total defense and second in rushing defense.

He joined the Dallas Cowboys in 1994 as an assistant coach of the nickel
defense under Barry Switzer. He was promoted to defensive backs coach
(1995-99) before being promoted to defensive coordinator in 2000. The
2004 Dallas Cowboys gave up the fewest yards in the NFL while running an
aggressive speedy 4-3 defense. Despite the Cowboys' problems over the
years, Zimmer has survived coaching changes (Switzer, Chan Gailey, Dave
Campo, Bill Parcells) and rumored to have been a candidate for the head
coaching job at the University of Nebraska (2003). For the 2005 season,
he implemented the 3-4 defense favored by head coach Parcells, although
Zimmer had no prior experience with it.

When Bobby Petrino was hired to coach the Atlanta Falcons early in 2007,
Mike Zimmer agreed to become the new defensive coordinator in Atlanta.

On January 15th, 2008 Mike became the Defensive Coordinator for the
Cincinnati Bengals.

His wife, Vikki, died at their home on October 8, 2009. Three days later
Zimmer was awarded the game ball by head coach Marvin Lewis after the
team's 17-14 victory over the Baltimore Ravens."

someone

If this guy has good character and is committed to the University, I wouldn't mind seeing him get the job at all.

Cutcliffe would be a good coach for us. At least we know that he has charcter and would be loyal to the University.

Lame Kitten sucks . . . just in case any of you had forgotten.

Oh good. I'd love another bad coach who'll never leave because of his loyalty.

I've got a sneaking suspicion that this wasn't Hamilton's choice, but he is going to be the fall guy for it. I know for a fact that some very high profile ex-players have made calls pushing Cutcliffe, and some very high profile boosters are in his corner. Hamilton may not have much of a say about it. If he bucks, he is gone, if he relents, then he is the focus of any backlash. The good-ole boy network strikes again. That is the reality of Tennessee football.

This is one of the few people posting here who gets it. He also coached heath Shuler. I challenged another thread to give me one stat while he was at TN that made us mediocre. Nobody could do it. Just kept bashing. Anybody wanna give me the stat we're we stunk with him on the coaching staff? Where we were EVEN mediocre? was it the 800% winning percentage. The nation championship. Turning Ainge around? I'll give you the losses to Fl that we should have won. That's all anyone has. And please dont start posting Duke stats like the other thread. He is at DUKE and has done the best job there since Spurrier.
