I don't think that's about Kiffy boy, although I wish it were..... I think it could be a positive message sent to UT athletes in general......

But the quote is directed at something that has definitely happened, not something that is about to happen. The quote states "how close they were to success when they gave up." Not "how close they were to success if they gave up."

Thats why I think its knocking Laney boy.

If it were me, I would be a bit more direct, like this:

"Hey, Lame, you are the worst excuse for a coach that I could have hired last year."

I don't see how that could be a jab at Kiffin. Kiffin didn't give up after struggling as head coach at UT. He went to USC, which is (at this current point in time) a better job.

WRONG----USC has never been nor never will be a better job than Tennessee. UT is second in all time wins in the SEC---the best conference in the country. Hell, USC can't even sell out the Coliseum.

It's a better job to Lame. That's all that really matters.

Most non-UT fans would tell you USC is a better job.

Whether or not USC is a better job than UT aside, you have to look at this from the viewpoint of competition.

If you are a true competitor, and you just went 7-6 as a HC in the SEC, the toughest FBS league on the planet, with losses to 2/3 of your major rivals, you don't even fathom leaving until you've proved to everyone that you are good enough to win in that league. It doesn't matter if your dream job is out there or not, you couldn't leave until you proved you make the grade in the SEC.

No matter what X does at USC, unless he somehow returns to the SEC, there will always be whispers that he can't cut it.

At this point and time (looking at things as objectively as you can) would you rather be the head coach of USC or TN? A team on a 10 year streak like few have ever had (and talent wise a couple of years from competing for an NC) or a rebuilding project several years away from doing anything of significance?

A team that will soon go on probation and may not even be able to play in a bowl game for a couple of years, or a program that was one play away from winning the SEC championship two years ago, where you had a class coming in that might help get you back there quickly?

Agreed. If anyone gave up, it is Hamilton. Hamilton is the one that has failed.
