I still don't get the fact that when teams drop 8 in soft coverage, why don't we utilize short passes for decent gains ? we did that a lot during 2022 .. not all large gains were deep balls, a lot were 5-10 yard pass into 40 yard gain ..
may be it is receivers or QB not recognizing those fast .. or may be play caller .. who knows

They didn't trust Nico to throw over the middle

I really, REALLY, want more pre-snap motion involved this season . We hit some explosives in 2022 putting a guy in motion. 3 big games off the top my head.. vs Bama TE in motion confuses safety and Hyatt scores over the top, same sort of play @ LSU , vs FLA guy in motion in goal to goal situation and hit McCoy. Hopefully we can get a little more complex than what we’ve been the past 2 seasons

Same. A lot of the beautiful moments from 2022 came from pre-snap motion to force decisions from the secondary. I know EVERYONE on this message board remembers Gary Danielson's call from that 2022 game. "Just a little bit of motion got this Alabama secondary confused."
And that was Nick "Master of Defense for All Time" Saban's secondary. Motion that tight end, move the linebacker over and catch the safety looking, send Hyatt, and then throw that pass on time ... as soon as he's even he's leaving.

Now granted, that's a gross over-simplification of some of it, and that particular scheme benefited from having a receiver who could run through the corner/safety confusion like a hot knife through butter, but hell, just ... I would love to see more of that wide split pre-snap motion.

The offense gets guys open as it is. 2023, 2024, we had a lot of open mens who didn't get the ball on time. I don't think for a second our staff can't scheme it up. I just want to see them work in more help to confuse theirs'uns and help ours'uns.

I'd like to see more motion too but it seems at tempo we have not been able to keep the pre snap penalties at a minimum since 2022. I feel that we're running less motion to avoid movement penalties.

This is why I like to see an O Line unit separate itself early in camp. Reps, reps, more reps and more reps so they are a solid unit.

I truly believe Hooker earned trust in them so got the playbook wide open during his second year. Neither Joe or Nico got to that level of confidence from the coaches, so playbooks were limited to take advantage of what they could do.

With all the reports about Aguilar's ability to throw on the run with accuracy....I am kinda getting excited to potentially see a return to the Hooker type football.

I'd love to see more variety in our splits with the hurry up to stress the defense both horizontally and vertically. Assuming its legal we should do like tight trips on the strong side with one wide on the weak side. Similar to formations Alabama and Indiana run.

When we’re going tempo it is definitely more difficult to run more pre-snap stuff quickly and efficiently. With our offense going so quickly it does cause more fake injury/dead ball situations. We really need to take advantage of those situations, the problem being everyone plays us 2 deep to not get beat over the top. Hopefully our intermediate pass game 10-25 yard plays will be more available with more comfort in the QB throwing over the middle. I think Joe and Nico were not very effective throwing those 15-25 yard balls and maybe that’s something that whoever QB1 is can be better at.

I thought the NCAA is addressing the fake injury situation with penalties this year?

Let's be honest, I'd drop deep too against Heupel's offense until he made us pay for it. If a team has confidence they can limit our run and make us grind that's much better than getting the game blown open over the top.

Hooker's rollout success was two fold: he could run well AND WOULD so it kept DBs honest AND it gave guys on short routes a chance to exploit that "will he run?" hesitation from the secondary.

QB1 needs to not only be ready to throw quick hitter routes but they also need to be a dangerous run threat to get that half-second pause from the secondary that let's a rollout pass be successful.

Not using the RBs in a passing game taking safeties deep has bothered me for a few years. I don’t get it, especially if you have a young qb. When in doubt just dump it 8-10 times a game.
barely use TEs also

for as good a yr as Miles had he only caught like 20 something passes.

im with you on the RBs esp with some of the guys we have had.
