Halo is basically the only console game that I find the time to play anymore

Pretty glowing review from IGN. I'm still not sold though. The armor abilities that absolutely ruined Halo Reach are back, so I'll take a wait and see approach. If Black Ops 2 doesn't live up to my expectations, I might be willing to give this one a try.

One thing I've always liked about halo multiplay is they allow up to 4 local players to jump online and join larger maps

I don't think it's even limited to larger maps. I think you can take as many as 3 guests into any matchmaking game on any map.

Did anybody else watch the "Forward Unto Dawn" mini-series on Halo Waypoint?

Pretty kick-ass.

So I ended up getting this as something to tide me over until Black Ops 2 next week. Overall the game is pretty fun. I played through the first mission, and other than the fact that it seemed like I spent half my time needing ammo, it was awesome.

As for the multiplayer, it's okay. There's some cool new weapons and vehicles. The Mantis is an unstoppable force if you can get one. My two complaints are... 1) Why the hell is the DMR back as the primary slayer rifle? The BR is way better. 2) The maps are entirely too big. The days of close quarters slayer games on maps like Guardian, Lockout, or Foundation are a thing of the past. A map like Zanzibar/Last Resort from Halo 2/3 would be one of the smaller maps on Halo 4.

Also apparently a thing of the past are the days where you could get a 4v4 game almost every time without somebody quitting. Probably 75% of the games I've played so far had at least one, and usually multiple, people quit. Oftentimes it was before the game even launched. Hopefully this is just bad luck and not par for the course with this game.

Is the multiplayer like Reach or any Halo 2 feeling to it?

It's more like Reach. With each passing game, the series gets farther and farther away from Halo 2, which isn't a good direction IMO. Halo 2 was the IMO the greatest online shooter ever. I kind of miss the days where winning games mattered and you were ranked and matched up with people who were of similar skill. Now everyone is just thrown haphazardly into matches and the only objective is to gain XP to level up and unlock weapons, perks, etc., exactly like COD.

thats disappointing.. I loved Halo 2. One of the very few games I could play for hours and hours online and still have fun.

4 is still pretty fun so far, but it's to the point now that aside from the number shots it takes to kill someone, the series is becoming almost indistinguishable from COD. Essentially the same leveling and unlocking system, custom classes as opposed to everyone having the same loadout and battling over key map points with power weapons. If not for the similarity of the controls and some holdover weapons and vehicles, this game has almost nothing in common with Halo 2.

If anyone lost faith in halo, halo 4 is definitely worth getting. It's a whole new revamped multiplayer and its absolutely wicked.

I don't really like the multiplayer at all, but I pretty well knew that would be the case when I bought the game. It's gone too far from it's Halo roots and feels almost exactly like COD. Not that I dislike COD at all, but I feel Halo should just have a different feel, and in a lot of ways Halo 4 doesn't.

That said, the campaign in this game was phenomenal. Some pretty cool new weapons and enemies to fight.
