I picked this off the Halo 3 forum. Some of the stuff this guy says is true, but overall, I think he's just whining. Check it:
I think thats the best way to put it. Hopefully some reasonable arguments/observations are below rather than just QQing..
They've nerfed the ability of a good player to dominate by leveling out the weapons so much. I'm not looking to have the Noob Combo back.. or auto rockets.. or full sweep sniping back (though sniping could use just a LITTLE bit of help its EXTREMELY hard w/o host unless you've got all day, and a noob target) The reduced auto-aim is a good challenge in almost all cases. I'm not looking for those changes to be un-done.
But the problem is now all the weapons are so balanced.. I have no desire to pickup any other weapons theres so little an advantage, besides maybe the BR having a slight advantage at very long range and a few situational power weapons. Half of the ability to perform well in H2 wasn't from autoaim or the gimicks people are whining about. But from having the ability to over come odd-s through stellar play, being able to out play someone who has a power weapon. Noob whoring the sword? Stick him while dodging his charge, BR owning you? sneak in grenade and SMG. etc Or being able to be highly accurate with the BR, and take out the two people assaulting you. Now that weapons are all so similar now, theres hardly any advantage to having the BR or a picked up weapon. Someone with an AR can just mess you up severely and then his teammate kills you, and you just trade kills one to one all day. I agree the SMG needed some love it was a horrible starting weapon for almost every map and made it really challenging to overcome someone who had a better weapon. But now with the AR its childish to overcome someone who has a better weapon regardless of skill. Also I'm glad sniping is more challenging but its to the point now where i'd rather have a BR than a sniper rifle its just easier to take someone out at anything but EXTREMELY long range and at that point they jitter around so much from lag its very hard to get a shot that hits anyway.
Also slowing down weapon switching and reloading has hurt things as well. It totally nerfs the advantage I have of being faster than someone. If i finish a kill and I'm out of ammo just as someone new attacks me, Its taking 3 seconds to pull out my next gun, in which time my 2nd target has decimated me with their starting weapon, its is silly, no matter how good I am its very hard to mount even somewhat of a counter attack. In H2 at least i could whip out my second weapon as fast as i pressed Y.. spray them and maybe take them down with a nade or melee. Now its just like "okay im dead since Im out of ammo and by the time I get my next gun out they will have shot 6 bullets and meleed me to death.. Maybe i can hit them once just to break their sheilds.
Meleeing is also over the top. Its probably the most desirable 'weapon' what is it like 6 random AR bullets and a melee and somones dead. It doesnt take much skill to accidentally hit someone with 6 AR bullets. And sure while I can beat someone to a melee it doesnt stop them from doing Heavy damage to me again screwing up my ability to take out anymore than one player whos not AFK/Autistic. It also exacerbates the host problem meleeing is somewhat similar to the shotgun (though not quite as bad)
Grenades are also far to weak in H2 i used to be able to come from behind by using an Extremely well placed grenade (blocking a doorway for example) that would either force the person to stop chasing me, or it would hit them so hard we'd be 'even' or i'd pull ahead and be able to kill them. Now it seems unless i land the grenade squarely under their feet its better for them to charge through said doorway and finish me just eating the grenade blast.
I'm also not talking about using the supposed 'cheap' tactics like BXR or BXB or charge combo, I'm fine with them being gone. Even though it was rather challenging to pull of a BXR well enough to be worth it.
They've slowed everything down so much and evened things out so much that it removes someones ability to shine. Sure everyones at the same level and theres some tactics you can use to do better but its like having a race in mud even if you're way faster than everyone in a normal race, you're all pretty much gonna go the same speed in the mud. Sure its funnier to run in mud but the competitiveness of a real race is lost and it becomes a joke.
So while I'm very happy with a number of fixes most of the new weapons, and mechanics etc. I'm reminded of the similar situation to Halo 2 before the patch. When it had stupid Weak melee and terrible grenades as well as a number of other bugs. The H3 bugs are different in that everything is one big mush of mediocre weapons, reducing the need to battle for the power weapons on the map. It doesn't have to go back to Halo 2 at all! but I think a better balance could be struck than they've got going currently.
