Figured since it’s Halloween night and a bye week it would be a good time to reminisce. I’ll never forget being in Neyland on this night. The atmosphere was unmatched.

Also pretty wild to look back and see Kiffin and Coach O running through the T. How times have changed.

If you didn’t already know, the story behind how Kiffin revealed them to the team on game night is really cool.

Super abridged version: Kiffin was told absolutely not by the higher ups, the team was aware he’d been stonewalled. On game night, he was in the locker room reminding the team they were a no-go, then said “But screw it, let them fire me” and had Eric Berry bust in the door wearing the black. The locker room apparently went nuts.

People can hate him all they want but had he stayed we would be good right now I’d guarantee it

He is such hard guy to hate.

I hate stories like this. Makes me miss him.

Thanks for posting the game. Anytime the Vols can hang a loss on little Steve it's a good thing.

The surprise black jerseys. The crowd was pretty electric that night.
I was living in California then, and was at a resort with my wife for a getaway weekend. She and I were watching the game in the hotel bar and went nuts when they ran out if the T wearing the black jerseys.

The people around is looked at us like we were from Mars.

Kids were still little and I took them trick-or-treating. Saw the black jerseys before we left the house. The whole time I'm trying to do right by my kids and not rush things, but I admit the game was weighing on my mind. At one house, a guy opens the door dressed in orange and I can see the game on his big screen in the background. He whooped and hollered a little bit when he saw my Power T hat. I got an update on the score and a Go Vols! Probably a little extra candy for the kids, too. It was a nice surprise and a relief to at least be able to get an update.

This might seem like an unremarkable event to many of you, but keep in mind that I live in Oregon.
